Full form of CCTV : CCTV stands for closed-circuit television, and it refers to the use of a video camera to transmit live or recorded images over a closed circuit. Every day, millions of closed-circuit television systems are used by businesses and governments around the world.The system consists of a video camera, transmitter, receiver and monitor. The video camera captures an image of the scene being viewed. The transmitter broadcasts the signal from the camera over a local area network (LAN) to receivers in different locations throughout the building or facility. These receivers can be either individual monitors or one large monitor with multiple input ports. The monitor displays whatever is being viewed at that moment.
Advantages
Closed-circuit television systems have several advantages over other types of security systems:
- They are easy to install and maintain because they don’t require wires running across floors or ceilings of buildings or facilities
- they can be installed on walls or ceilings without having to run wires through walls or ceilings
- they don’t require a long power cable between the transmitter and receiver; they don’t need batteries or power converters;
- they don’t need any complicated programming software because all you need is a monitor and transmitter
- they can be used indoors as well as outdoors.
CCTV systems can be divided into three main types:
- Networked CCTV – where all cameras are linked together over a private or public switched telephone network;
- IP CCTV – where all cameras are connected via an internet protocol, usually using broadband Internet access; and
- IP/Optical CCTV – where the feed from each camera is converted to an analog format before being transmitted over regular analog cable TV lines.
