Introduction –
“The hand that rocks the cradle rocks the world” is a phrase written by William Ross Wallace. The proverb or phrase highlights the authority of the mother about the upbringing of a child. In other words, this phrase also denotes the wonderful contribution of mothers to society wherein it perfectly depicts the various roles played by a mother. A mother epitomises miraculous compassion, empathy, unconditional love, sacrifice and selflessness. She plays the role of a caregiver and represents rays of new hopes for the future of the nation and in moulding society. A woman who is capable of rocking a cradle also possesses the ability to rule the nation.
Discussion –
The phrase do not necessarily coveys that a mother need not rule the world all by herself instead she can exert an influence in ruling the world. In other words, it also means that a mother possesses the ability to create a new generation which might possess the ability to rule the nation one day. Furthermore, the proverb also has a deeper meaning embedded into it which goes on to state that all the eminent rulers of the nation were once a helpless child who was nurtured by their mother. It is the mother who shapes the behaviour of the child and transforms him/her into a hardworking achiever. Thus, a mother is capable of raising a great leader from the very day she had started to cradle him. Motherhood is celebrated by the proverb and ergo the mother is regarded as the defining factor for bringing about a change in society. Goddess figurines are found in the ancient textbooks of Ramayana and Mahabharata has raised their child to be prominent rulers of the world. This is possible because the mothers infused their children with good moral values. Thus a mother can raise a child to be a leader from the very day she starts to cradle him. The development, behaviour and emotional growth of the child are shaped by the mother itself.
Mothers are always there to console, guide and protect their children. Surprisingly, the mother begins to influence the child right from the time it is inside her womb. As opined by William Wallace in his poem angels bestow blessings on the hands of the mother. When a child is born it is the hands of the mother that gently holds the baby, wipes the tears and feeds him. The permanent impression on the minds of the child is created by the mother and thus the moral training is given by the mother from the very beginning. From that very day, the mother raises the child, it fills the child’s mind with good thoughts and infuses it with positivity.
Conclusion –
In conclusion, it can be said that, a mother influences the life of a child and this depends entirely on the upbringing. The first six years in the life of a child are regarded as the most influential age. The impressions made by the mother on the child leave an indelible mark and it has got to do a great with the moulding of the character of the child. Whenever the child is bestowed with affection, love and care he views the world in a positive way and thus, he garners the potential to become a successful leader.
