Essay – Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make a man more clever devil
Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make a man more clever devil Essay: “Education without values as useful as it seems rather to make a man more clever devil” is a famous quote opined by C.S Lewis. Education and values are not inseparable from one another and even if they are done so they can be extremely dangerous that can lead to the downfall of man. However, it has been noted that education without values is absurd and it can make a man clever devil instead of making him wise. In the present day, the modern system of education is all about teaching students to pass the exam and helping them to prove themselves superior to others by earning enough for themselves. As the result, the discussion below throws light on the matter which makes a man clever devil instead of making him wise and faithful.
Discussion
Education has been used as a source of employment rather than a media that is needed to uplift society. Instead of being helpful, education in the contemporary times has proven to be both fatal and futile. There are various instances whereby it is seen that education instead of imbibing morality in human beings is making them the devil. The dreadful nuclear attacks on Nagasaki and Hiroshima have been done by an educated person who is devoid of values. The man who makes the nuclear bomb is a clever devil because, with the help of the education he acquired, he is able to devise the nuclear bomb- a destructive weapon. However, he could have used the knowledge he acquired out of education to make something that should have saved mankind. Furthermore, it has been noted that highly educated doctors who are regarded as life saviours are involved in heinous crimes such as forced abortions, and organ trafficking for the sake of acquiring a large amount of money. This implies that these doctors even though they are educated are devoid of values and thus they act in an inhumane manner. In addition, many educated top-class businessmen have involved themselves in abominable scams. For instance, Vijaya Mallya is engaged in unethical conduct for which he has been highly detested by many. Despite being educated he also lacks values and virtues. He has taken heavy debts from the banks with no intention of paying the debts. The various banks from which he has taken loans are the Axis bank amounting to 50 crores, and Punjab and Sind bank amounting to 60 crores many others. As a result, many banks declared him bankrupt and were apathetic in giving him loans. In addition, many unethical practices were committed by his airlines whereby he was not paying any salary and PF facilities to the employees. Surprisingly he did not pay any taxes to the government for which he was arrested. Other instances of malicious acts committed by the educated person include corruption of public resources, cyber warfare and hacking.
Conclusion
Eminent personalities and polymaths like Swami Vivekananda, and APJ Abdul KAlam, have stressed the importance of values in our education. Mostly they have stressed values such as solidarity, fraternity, brotherhood, honesty, belongingness and patriotism. They have preached that service to humanity is service to God. In addition, they further professed that a man without values cannot be called educated. It is evident from the above discussion that an educated man without values does more harm than good, by disguising themselves as a clever devil.
