Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav Essay: From the time when human beings have started a settled life, languages have evolved. Language is the most versatile and essential medium through which humans connect with each other. Every culture has their own language and has created huge literature in their languages.
India is a land of diversity. The country has various cultures, religions, cuisines and languages. From the ancient times, the country has been visited by people from different parts of the world. They have brought along their culture, customs and languages with them. The natives of this land have mingled with them and slowly the languages of our nation have also developed.
A versatile and enormous number of compositions have developed from ancient times in different vernacular languages in our land which have enriched our culture. Literatures like the Vedas, the Mahabharata, the Ramayana, the Gitopadesh, the Panchatantra were read and recited by the people during those times which enhanced their values of life. Languages like Sanskrit, Tamil, Prakrit were among the most prominent languages. Later with increase in invasions and colonization of our country, mainly by the British, the importance of vernacular languages slowly faded away. The English language gradually became the only language for instructions in the field of education and mass use as it was suitable for the administration of the nation. English has played the roleof the prominent language in all fields of education and instructions in our country even after independence and vernaculars were not given their much due credit.
With the implementation of National Education Policy 2020, the importance of vernacular languages was brought to limelight. The NEP 2020 suggested that students should be encouraged to know about the rich heritage of the vernacular languages through various projects and activities like “The Languages of India”.
The need to create awareness amongst the students about different languages that are spoken in different parts of India paved the way for the celebration of the languages or the ‘Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas’. Henceforth, 11th Decemberis observed as the “Bhartiya Bhasha Diwas”. The main objectives are to encourage people, mainly the students to know about the Indian languages, learn few languages apart from their mother tongue and English. University Grants Commission has instructed all the educational institutions to observe ‘the Bhasha Diwas” on 11th December, the birth anniversary of the Tamil poet Subramania Bharati. The schools, universities and colleges are advised to organize competitions like speeches, writing, games, dramas, exhibitions and various other activities to commemorate the day. The Central government also plans to establish 22 ‘Bhasha Kendras’ or Language Centres to promote Indian languages which are enlisted in our Constitution. The “Bhasha Utsav” highlights the need to focus on the Indian languages for the progress of the nation and “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat”.
The success of the “Bharatiya Bhasa Diwas” will build cultural awareness among the young Indians and enhance the chances of using the Indian languages in all academic, economic and cultural walks of life apart of English language.

In India we can see people from different religions, different caste are living together lovingly. Only India is the country in the world which has unity in diversity that means विविधता में एकता. As we all know that in India many states are there where different languages are found. Then also people are migrating from one state to another for their needs and family without any regret or difficulty of language. Because we all living together happily regardless of caste and religion. All we are having humanity and unity which is the unique identity of our Indians. As we know Hindi language is the Indian language but on state level we are giving importance to language of that state only to reserve or to save our identity, history and our values. Language is not only the medium to talk but also to express our thoughts and feelings with others. There is no need of only one language or regional language to express ourselves because language means expressing our feelings and thoughts instead of caste and religion. In India people from each state are following their culture, language and developing themselves within that.
The languages spoken in India are Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, gujrati, rajsthani, Punjabi, Marathi, Kannada, Bengali and many more. The people from different religions are living together that is the symbol of unity for India. Also, people from different religions like Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Boudha, Jain and many more they are worshipping their god and the sacrifices did by them. They are worshipping the Vedas, Granth like Kuran, Baybal, Bhagvat gita and so not only in their language but also in each language so that their thoughts will be spread all over the world.
To create awareness among the upcoming generation about our religion, rich heritage and to increase the values of our country all over the world NEP started to organise different programmes, projects, Speeches on Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav. Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav is like a celebration of each religion and their culture. It’s shows how each and every religion and their culture is important.
As we know that, students from school are mainly learning their mother tongue and English language mostly. So to learn or to know other languages than this government has started 11th December as a ‘Bhartiya Bhasha Divas’ to celebrate Bhartiy Bhasha Utsav. The name itself indicates that we maintained our identity of language and unity. It’s like a big festival of language to know them, to learn them through different activities at school level.
To promote our indian languages government has started this Bhartiy Bhasha Utsav celebration to encourage the youth and the school students to speak Indian language and to aware about that.
Mostly in all type of education the language used is English as all over the world the English language is known. But while developing ourselves we have to maintain or reserve our culture and language also. To enhance that different languages and in many academics importance to regional language is given. We have to aware people to enhance and to promoto our mother tongue and in that way to celebrate the Bhartiy Bhasha Utsav. Because our native identity is our mother tongue only. Let celebrate the big festival of Indian languages to promote and enhance it all over the world.
