Difference between AC and DC generator
AC generator
- AC generator is device which converts mechanical energy to produce alternating current.
- The current produced in AC generator reverses its direction periodically.
- The armature coil used in the AC generator is suspended such that it remains fixed throughout the cycles of induced current.
- Commutator key is not required in AC generator.
- The power of AC generator is high and has low dissipation rating.
AC generator
- DC generator is device which converts mechanical energy to produce direct current.
- The current produced in DC generator do not reverses its direction periodically, hence remains along same direction throughout.
- The armature coil used in the DC generator is suspended such that it can rotate freely in the magnetic field.
- Commutator key is required in DC generator.
- The power of DC generator is low and has high dissipation rating.
