Difference between Magnetic lines of force and electric lines
Magnetic lines of force
- Magnetic lines of force give us the strength of magnetic field.
- They are close and continuous curved which starts from North pole and end at South pole of magnet.
- Magnetic lines of force are close continuous curve, starts from North Pole and ends at South Pole.
- Magnetic lines of force never intersect each other
- Tangent drawn at any point on the curve indicates the direction of magnetic field at the point (shown in fig).
- Magnetic field is strong if lines are crowded and weak if the lines are widely spaced.
- Total number of lines of force crossing perpendicular to given surface is known as magnetic flux.
- The diagram below shows the nature of magnetic lines of force,

Electric lines of force
- Electric lines of force give us the strength of Electric
- They are close and continuous curved which starts from positive charge and end at negative charge.
- Electric lines of force never intersect each other
- Tangent drawn at any point on the curve indicates the direction of Electric field at the point (shown in fig).
- Electric field is strong if lines are crowded and weak if the lines are widely spaced.
- Lines of forces show attractive nature for unlike charges (one positive and other negative).
- Lines of forces show repulsive nature for like charges (either both positive and negative).
- Total number of lines of force crossing perpendicular to given surface is known as electric flux.
- The diagram below shows the nature of electric lines of force,
