Ans: British or East India company wanted to spread education among the Indians for their own profit. They wanted to build an elite class who will only listen to them. Moreover they wanted to spread western form of education to spread Christianity. So according to my point of view the initiative was good but the intention was negative.
(2) State the major landmarks in the field of education in the nineteenth and the twentieth century.
Ans: The major land marks are-
- Charter act of 1813-
(i) British invested 1lakh rupees for education in India.
(ii) Two colleges like Hindu and Elphinstone was established in Bombay and Calcutta.
