Chhattisgarh State Class 6 Science Chapter 13 Solution
(1) Name these :-
1.) The place from where the word ‘ magnet ‘ has come . – Mangnesia
2.) When a nonmagnetic substance is brought near a magnet it obtains the property of a magnet . – Repulsion
3). Magnets which are found free in nature . – Natural magnets
4.) The alloy from which powerful magnets are made . – Alnico
5.) The portion of the magnet where maximum magnetic power is felt . – Both poles
6.) The piece of soft iron which protect a magnet . – Magnetic protector
(2) Choose the correct answer :-
1.) This is a natural magnet – d) Soft iron
2.) This is a magnetic substance – d) Iron
3.) Permanent magnet are made from – d) Alnico
4.) Magnetic north of a magnet – b) repels other north pole
5) Magnetic power of a magnet is – c) Both the above sttement are correct
(3) Answer the following questions :-
1.) Give two examples each of magnetic and non-magnetic materials.
Magnetic materials – Iron , Cobalt .
Non-magnetic materials – Copper , Wood .
2.) Why are artificial magnets used more than natural magnets?
As artificial magnets are more powerful than natural magnets , the artificial magnets are used more than natural magnet .
4.) What is done to preserve the magnetic power of a magnet ?
A piece of soft iron is placed on the magnet to preserve its magnetic power .
5.) Write two important properties of a magnet.
Two important properties of a magnet are – Attraction and Repulsion .
6.) Write the uses of a magnet
The uses of magnet – a) Iron ore is extracted from mixed ores by using magnet ,
b) Magnet is used to make magnetic compass , etc .
7.) “Repulsion is the proper identification of a magnet”. Prove it.
If I have two iron rods and I have to identify that which one is magnet then I bring a magnet near the ends of both rods . If there is an attraction to both the ends then it is an iron rod , but if it is attracted to one end and it repelled by the other end then it is a magnet . So we can say that ” Repulsion is the proper identification of a magnet ” .
8.) “Earth is a magnet”. Justity
The Earth acts as a magnet itself . Its magnetic north pole points the geographical south and its south pole points geographical north . It is said that the migratory birds find their way by using the magnetic field of the earth . So ” Earth is a magnet ” .
9.) Two bar magnets are usually kept in pairs. In the given figure 13.12 E and F are pieces of two metals;
(1) Name of the metal E and F – Soft iron .
(2) E and F are used as magnetic protectors .
(3) The poles of the other magnet – S —— N .
(4) Name of the black part in the middle – Wooden block .
10.) Suppose you have two iron rods, and one of them is a magnet. How will you identify it ?
If I have two iron rods and I have to identify that which one is magnet then I bring a magnet near the ends of both rods . If there is an attraction to both the ends then it is an iron rod , but if it is attracted to one end and it repelled by the other end then it is a magnet . This is how I will identify which one is magnet between two iron rods .
