Around the world Summary
The story “Around the world” is a very interesting story about Mr. Phileas Fogg who bets with his friend to go around the world in 80 days.
The 1st three Para “That evening . . . . . again” highlight the beginning of his Journey to discover the world. Mr. Fogg along with companion were on the train from San Francisco to New York which was 3786 miles away. They would reach Atlantic Ocean from Pacific Ocean in 7 days. The train was in great speed through California & it crossed many mountain canyons, bridges, tunnels etc. Suddenly the train showed its pace as a herd of buffaloes started crossing the track. It took almost three hours to cross. It was night till the train moved again.
The 4th to 7th Para “The train . . . . . . Speed” continue to describe his Journey. The most difficult part of the Journey had started as the train headed to mountains & the roads were winding up. It was the highest point, 7524 feet which they passed in their Journey. They would reach Rocky mountains in a few hours. All the passengers had taken their breakfast & suddenly the train gave a loud whistle & came to a hault. Passepartout the companion went to see the in the middle with no station nearby.
The companion heard the signalman say the bridge near medicine bow was weak & had broken cables & would not support the weight of the train. The driver than told that there might be a way to cross the bridge if the train crossed the bridge in the maximum speed.
The 8th, 9th, 10th, Para “All abroad . . . . . shots” mention one more incident that happened on their way to the Journey. The conductor prepared everything. The train reversed for nearby a mile to a train that speed & moved in a gushing speed as if it was flying in air. They soon success fully crossed the bridge & the bridge crashed down in the water below. The train continues its speed. Next day something frightening happen when the train was attacked by hundreds of Sioux Indians. They jumped into the train & were armed with various things. Some travelers luckily had revolvers with them & they bravely fought with the dacoits.
The 11th & 12th Para conclude the story “The conductor . . . . . . entirely”. The conductor shouted if the train doesn’t stop they get lost. Hearing this Passepartout opened the door & slipped under the racing train & separated the engine from the coaches. Gradually the train started to slow sown. The train neared a station where soldiers heard sound of shots & hurried towards the train, before they could catch the Red Indians they Jumped off the train & fled away.
