It’s not always about the root or key words sometimes people don’t have the knowledge of using the grammatical words properly. Important note

We can say that both the terms cannot be used interchangeably and one should be exactly ware of grammatical rules to use them. We can use a simple trick to remember the difference that is term “are” and “plural” both have “r” and the term “is” and “singular” both have “I” in it. In this way we can remember are used in plural sense and is used in singular sense.
