Early life
Ajinkya Rahane was born into a Hindu Maratha family on 6 June 1988 to Madhukar Baburao Rahane and Sujata Rahane in Ashwi KD, Maharashtra, India. He finished his SSC at SV Joshi High school, Dombivli. From the age of 17, he took coaching from former Indian cricketer, Pravin Amre. To earn his bachelor’s degree in commerce, he enrolled in the V.G Vaze College of Arts, Science and Commerce.

On 26th September 2014, Ajinkya Rahane got married to his childhood friend Radhika Dhopavkar. Both grew up in the same neighborhood. The couple gave birth to a daughter named Aarya in October 2019. On 5 October 2022, the couple is blessed with a baby boy.

Professional life and Career synopsis
Domestic Career :
In early 2007, when India U-19 toured New Zealand, Rahane had performed well for two centuries. He was named for the Mohammad Nissar Trophy in Pakistan.
First-class career –
Ajinkya was 19 when he made his first-class debut for Mumbai, in September 2007 against Karachi Urban in the Mohammad Nissar Trophy. Due to some other reasons, most of the first-choice Mumbai players were unavailable, and Ajinkya got the opportunity. In his debut match, he made a score 143 in 247 balls Then, he was subsequently selected for the Irani trophy against the Rest of India.
In the 2007-08 Duleep Trophy, he scored 172 runs against England Lions for West Zone. In his second Ranji season (2008-09), Ajinkya scored 1089 runs that became a crucial factor in Mumbai’s 38th title win.
His performance in the 2011 Irani Trophy match against Rajasthan helped him get selected for India’s Test squad. In April 2019, for a period of 2 months, he joined Hampshire as their overseas player.
List A Career :
In March 2007, he made his List A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai against Delhi. In partnership with former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer, they made 171 runs of which Ajinkya contributed 61 runs.
Also, he had been a part of the India U-19 team and India A. In the NKP Salve Challenger trophy, he had turned out for India green and India Blue. For the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy Tournament, he was selected as the captain of Mumbai in September 2018. In October 2018, he was nominated as the captain of India’s C squad for the 2018-19 Deodhar Trophy. With a crucial knock of 144 in the final, he led his team to win the title.
International Career:
Test Career –
In November 2011, Ajinkya was selected for the test squad to play against the West Indies. On 22 March 2013, in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he made his test debut against Australia at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium, in Delhi. Two single digits score from Rahane, raised many questions to Rahane’s ability to handle pressure. Despite this, for the first match of India’s tour of South Africa (2013-14) he was included in the playing eleven squads. At an average of 69.66, he made 209 runs by batting in the lower-middle order. On 15 February 2014, he made his first test ton against New Zealand at Basin Reserve, Wellington, New Zealand. Ajinkya came to the crease when India was in a difficult position at 156 for five and he departed with 118 runs, by that time India was in a match-winning position but it got ruined with the famous triple century by Brendon McCullum. With eight catches in the first test of the 2015 tour of Sri Lanka, he broke the World record for most catches in a test match. In the same year, he scored his fourth test hundred, and at the ICC player Rankings, he reached his career-best ranking of 20th. Then on 16 August 2016, he got his career-best test batsmen ranking of no. 8.
Due to an injury to ViratKohli, Rahane became India’s 33rd Test Captain on 25 March 2017. In 2018 also, in the absence of ViratKohli, he led the Indian squad in the test match against the Afghanistan national cricket team. By scoring a century in the first Test in the 2019 two-match series in West Indies, he guided India to victory. In December 2020 when ViratKohli was on paternity leave, Rahane was made Captain of the Indian team for the final three matches of India’s tour of Australia. In the first innings, he scored 112 runs and he 27 runs in the second innings. By 8 wickets he guided India to victory and received the Player Of TheMatch award for his performance. In November 2021 he was appointed as the captain of the Indian squad for the first test against New Zealand. Under his captaincy in 6 tests, India won 4 matches.
One-Day International career :
By scoring 2 back to back centuries in the Emerging Players Tournament in Australia, he made his place in the India One Day International (ODI) squad for the tour of England in 2011. As a replacement for opener VirendraSehwag, Rahane made his debut against England at Chester-le-Street. At a strike rate of 90.90, he made 40 runs. In his maiden International series (2011 NatWest series) he did well against England in England. In his second match of the later tour, he made 54 runs in 47 balls. In the 2013-14 Asia Cup, he made his second ODI fifty. At times he has struggled to balance between defense and attack in a short ODI career in the middle order. But he scored centuries against England and Sri Lanka in 2014. Then in the ICC Cricket World Cup, at an average of 34.66, he scored 208 runs from 8 matches. For India’s tour of Zimbabwe for ODI’s and T20s , he was appointed as the captain of India in 2015.
T20I Career-
In August 2011, against England, Rahane made his international debut in a Twenty-20 International at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester. In this match, he scored a half-century against England. He was also a part of the Indian squad that made it to the final of the 2014 World T20. In 2015 he was appointed as the captain of India in the two Twenty20 Internationals against Zimbabwe. In those matches, he scored 33 in one match and 4 in another.
Controversies of Ajinkya Rahane
Due to consistently poor runs with the bat, Rahane has been dropped from the Red-ball side of India. Despite his efforts that successfully led the Indian team to the historic Test series win against Australia in 2021.
In February 2022, i.e. after a year, Rahane made some shocking comments in his recent interviews. The star cricketer opened up on the same that he never got what he actually deserved, he never got credits for what he did in Australia. He said “I know what I’ve done in the Australia series and that’s not my nature to go out there and take credit.” Yes, there were a few decisions that I had taken, but someone else took the credit.
