The so called upper class people would pour water from distance in the pots of wada people and that would make their bodies wet. Comprehension III
1.) How does the poem demonstrate the disparity and discrimination in society using water as a symbol?
Ans. Water is one of the most basic needs of every human’s life. But there are people from the society who still struggle to meet such basic need. Rich and upper class people can get access to water easily. They can even afford mineral and bottled water whereas on the other hand, untouchable people have to struggle a lot even for a glass of water. They have to walk for miles to get water. Their bodies pain due to such task. They don’t have enough water when there is fire in the village. The lower class people bath only once a week because they don’t have water but on the other hand rich people bath twice a day. The untouchables can’t even fetch water from the well as they are considered the lower part of the society. These people can’t even satisfy their thirst because untouchables are not allowed to use water. A basic need like water can be the root cause of the discrimination in the society because upper class people think that it is their right to have access to everything but the untouchables cannot.

Due to lack of water, the poor and the untouchables cannot even bath every day. Also, they are affected with various diseases. Some people even die because of lack of water and this is such a sad thing. When they are denied of water, they suffer not just physically but they suffer emotionally too. It takes a huge toll on their emotional balance. At times they don’t even have water to douse the large amount of fire.
