10 examples of joining simple sentence
Joining two sentences into single one is called transformation of sentence. There are various rules to join two sentences together and form a single one. It enhances readability and develop the knowledge over language too. Simple sentences can be formed by joining with participle, gerund, infinitive, absolute phrase, adverbial phrase and phrase in apposition. Students will understand how to apply each rule while joining sentences into simple one.
1.) Participle: participle joins two sentences when it functions as both an adjective and a verb.
i) Present participle- present participle refers any present actions which is ongoing in present time.
Example: I saw a running train today.
ii) Past participle- it describes any completed action in past. It has a passive sense in it.
Example: I got one burnt paper.
iii) Perfect participle- it expresses an action which is covered between the intervals of two actions.
Example: having completed his work, he returned home.
Example of simple sentence:
He saw a snake. He ran away.

2.) Infinite: infinite is formed by adding to before main verb to express any action.
Examples:
i) He always speaks the truth. He does not afraid of it.
Answer. He is not afraid to speak the truth.
ii) I have some homework. I must complete them.
Answer. I have some homework to complete them.
iii) He is so sick. He cannot go out.
Answer. He is too sick to go out.
3.) Gerund: verb-ing form functions as noun in a sentence is gerund.
Examples:
i) She heard the news. She felt sad.
Answer. On hearing the news, she felt sad.
ii) He gave me advice. He supported me.
Answer. Besides giving me advice, he supported me.
iii) He is a teacher. He is an artist.
Answer. Besides being a teacher he is an artist.
4.) Adverbial phrase: it works like an adverb in a sentence.
Examples:
i) He was ill. He could not go to office.
Answer. He could not go to office because of his illness.
ii) He returned home. It was late at night.
Answer. He returned home late at night.
5.) Absolute phrase: when the participle and connected works function independently in sentence, it is called absolute phrase.
Examples:
i) The weather was fine. I went for jogging.
Answer. The weather being fine, I went for jogging.
ii) The work was completed. We returned home.
Answer. The work having been completed, we returned home.
