In the lesson, ‘Environment’, Wangari Maathai was very happy to see the women successful and independent. She could help them become competent and empowered.
Imagine you are Wangari Maathai and make a diary entry about the transformation in the illiterate women
As an environmental activist I have always tried to inspire people for protecting and conserving the environment for their own good. When I was child I saw nature was blessed with abundant natural resources to fulfil the needs of people. The main natural resources air, water, land and forest were enough to provide all the essential products within time. But people have destroyed the national resources and disturbed the biological diversity for their own activities. For the increasing rate of urbanization and deforestation people are losing the greenery in their environment and animals are losing their natural habitats. As long as I have worked with environmental studies I have found peace within my mind. I have found out that people will be relieved from many problems just by restoring the environment.
When I worked in Africa for providing equal rights and developed lifestyle to the country people I found the biggest challenge to make them understand the value of environment. African people have faced discrimination and lived an underprivileged life for quite a long time. People especially women was far behind from the light of education for which they did not have the courage to fight for their rights. After finding the major reason of illiterate women I took the first responsibility of making them understand the importance of planting trees. They needed to understand that only more trees could reduce pollution from the environment and give us the proper ecological balance.
At first I took some steps for educating illiterate women of Africa about the need of green and clean environment around them. Then I taught them the important lesson of planting trees. I found immense pleasure and joy on their faces when they planted trees for the first time by their own. I have tried my best to educate them so that they can find ways to conserve the environment by their own. Butas an active supporter of the illiterate women in Africa region I wish to work more for them. I wish to explore more paths through which they can find the light of development and improved version of life. I want to educate them more about fit and healthy lifestyle for keeping diseases away. Besides that they will be able to educate and guide their own children with learned knowledge and experience which will create a positive environment for all of us altogether. I wish one day they will come out all the obstacles of life and move ahead in the glory of success and happiness in life.
