Telanagana State Board Class 7 Science Chapter 8 Air Winds And Cyclones Solution:
Improve your learning
(1) Wind is _____ air
Ans: – Moving
(2) Winds are generated due to _____ heating on the earth.
Ans: -uneven
(3) Near the earth’s surface ______ air rises up where as ____ air comes down.
Ans: – The warm/Hot, the cold
(4) Air moves from a region of _____ pressure to a region of ______ pressure.
Ans: – high, low
(5) Suggest two methods to find out wind direction at a given place.
Ans: – We know an instrument called anemometer can be used to find the direction of the wind.
Take a piece of a paper in your hand and it fall down from your hand.
In this way we find out wind direction. The paper will flow in the direction in which wind is blowing.
While you flying a kite, the kite will flies in the direction in which wind is blowing.
(6) State two experiences that make you think that air exerts pressure. (other than those given in the text)
Ans: –
(1) The tubes of scooter can filled with air. But when it is over filled with air, it can brust, because of excess air. So the tubes expands and after a point it brusts. It happens only air exerts pressure.
(2) When fill a gas cylinder completely with air it also exerts pressure on the surface or wall of the cylinder.
(3) We have also seen the movement of pungs of door and windows in our house. It happens when high speed wind blows and also happens when air exerts pressure.
(7) While construction a house, where do we construct ventilators why?
Ans: – While constructing a house, we construct ventilators in the upper part of our house mears in the walls near roofs.
To keep the room temperature normal. We should be construct the ventilators at the top of the walks.
Ventilators are very important because due to it presence the hot air in the room gets warmer and for this hot air goes out and the cool air comes into the room through ventilators though the windows are closed. This makes the room fresh and suffocation free.
(8) Explain why holes are made in banners and headings hanging in the open.
Ans: – Holes are made in banners and hoarding, hanging in the open, because the wind/air can pass through them. If there are no holes in the banners and hoardings air pressure may be destroyed the hoardings and banners.
(9) How will you help your neighbours in case cyclone approaches your village/town?
Ans: –
(1) By helping them to over to cyclone shelters and other safer places.
(2) By helping them to shift essential good like domestic animals, vehicles to safer places.
(3) Keep ready the emergency phone numbers of all emergency services like police, fire brigade and medical centers.
(4) Making them to aware of cyclone warnings and cyclone alerts. Do not ignore the warnings or alerts.
(5) Do not go out especially near the sea.
(6) Switch off electrical mains in your locality areas or your house.
(10) In the day time when we go to the sea the air blows towards us and dies not go towards the sea. Explain.
Ans: – In summer near the equator the land heats up faster and during the dat the temperature of the land is higher than the water in the sea. The air over the land gets heated and rises. This is reason behind that, in the day time, when we go to the sea, the air blows from the sea towards the land, mean towards us and goes not go towards the sea.
(11) Which of the statements given below is correct?
(a) In winter the winds flow from the land to the ocean.
(b) In summer the winds flow from the land towards the ocean.
(c) A cyclone is fored by a very high pressure system with very high speed winds revlolving around it.
(d) The coastline of India is not vulnerable to cyclones.
Ans: – The correct ans is (a) In winter the winds flow from the land to the ocean.
Reason: During winter seasons the water surface cools more earlier than the land. Due to this the air above ocean becomes cooler that the air above land. As we know wind always blow from high pressure to low pressure so the wind blows from ocean to the land.
(14) Interview eye witnesses to collect the actual experiences of people effected by a cyclone.
Ans: – Ramu is reling forom the impact of the cyclone. Eye witness have be4n telling their bad and scarry experiences and also telling about their damages in their particular and attached area. He tell us that when the cyclone land fall, suddenly the power went off and many parts of the area in darkness. Next morning first the thing he noticed that there were many trees which have been uprooted. They have blocked all the roads and major roads. The trees had fallen on power lines internet and cable wires completely tearing them apart. Traffic lights were uprooted bent lay on roads. There was no internet connection also.
