(1.) What are the various ways in which the Koyas are dependent upon the forests around them?
Ans. The ways in which the Koyas are dependent upon the forest around them because they first of all clear forest and burn them and the ashes also help in making the field better for farming. Whereas on another side they allow the forest to grow. So, in that field they grow crops for them. They collects various forest produces. The forest is the store house for small animals so they also developed hunting. They collects honey and bamboo shoots from the forest. They also sells forest products for earn money in the market for any illness either for humans or animals their knowledge of the medical plants collected from the forest provided the remedies.
(2.) List out various means of living in a hill region.
ans. They mainly grow crops and vegetables in the podu lands or the backyards. The crops are become insufficient then they collects forest produce and hunting. The women and children are also engaged in collection of edible forest produce. The important forest product that they collect honey and bamboo shoots. The other occupation for living in the hill region are cattle rearing, basket weaving etc.
(3) Why do the Koyas move from one hill to another for growing crops?
Ans. The koyas move from one hill to another because each village has a specified area or hill that they can use for farming. Within this area people clear a patch of forest and burn it. Then they grow crops on these fields for a few year. After that they leave that patch of land allows the forest to grow again. They move to another site in the area where they grow crops for next few years. This way their farms keep shifting every few years and they return to these plots after many years.
(4.) Compare the nature of the fields in the three villages that you studied and bring out their similarities and differences
Comparison of the nature of fields:-
Krishna delta plains:-
In the village Penamakuru or Krishna delta plains have allivial soild which is so fertile and fall of nutrients. This soil helps the people to grow crops.
Dokur village:-
In Dokur village or plateau region the soil is red soil. This soil is not so fertile and deep. They lack many nutrients necessary from growing crops. The soil contain high sand they do not retain much water to help the roots spread firm and wide.
Penugolu village:-
In this village as we climbed the hills we saw thick forests and occasional big patches of cleared land. This clearance are the fields that lie scattered across the hills. The fields are also with red soils were on the slops and not very fertile.
