(Q1) State which of the following sets are empty and which are not?
(i) The set of lines passing through a given point
=>
We have to take one point and passing through many lines from given point
It is a not-empty set
Because all these lines are elements
So many lines passing through point
Hence, it is an non-empty set
(2) The set of odd natural numbers divisible by 2.
=> The set of odd natural members is = {1, 3, 5, 7, 9 —-}
But the odd natural numbers divisible by 2 is not possible.
[Odd numbers in the form of 2∩+1]
There is no such a numbers divisible by 2.
So, there is no elements is here.
So, It is an empty set
{ } = ∅
(3) {x : x} is a natural number, x <5 and x>7}
=> { } It is an empty set
[x <5 the natural number is {1, 2, 3, 4} but not x>7]
(4) {x : x is a common point to any two parallel lines}

(Q2) State whether the following sets are finite or infinite.
(i) The set a months in a year
=> It is a finite in a year.
[“If there are countable elements in a set is called finite set and “if there are uncountable elements in a set are called infinite set”]
So, here the months in 0 year is countable.
There are 12 months in a year or 12 elements in a set
(ii) {1, 2, 3, —– 99, 100}
=> * How many elements in a set?

(iii) The set of prime numbers smaller than 99.
=> The set of prime numbers smaller than 99 = {2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 57, 61, 67, 71, 73, 79, 83, 87, 97}
There will be a 25 prime numbers smaller than 99.
So, it is a countable set
Hence, It is a finite set
(iv) The set of lines that can be drawn parallel to the x – Axis
=>
(v) The set of letters in the English alphabet.
=> There are 26 letters in English alphat.
So, it is a countable set
∴ It is a finite set.
(vi) The set of numbers which are multiples of 5.
=> {5X1=5, 5X2=10, 5X3=15, 5X4=20, 5X5=25, ——}
So, the number of elements are uncountable.
∴ It is an infinite set
(vii) The set of circles passing through the origin (0, 0)
=>
We can draw so many circles passing through the origin (0,0).
So, It is uncountable set.
∴ It is an infinite set.
