Good morning to the respected principal, teachers, and fellow friends of my school. Today we are here to celebrate World Habitat Day. The teachers mentioned us about the significance of the day and informed to arrange an event. In the beginning of the program, I am going to share a small note on the importance of celebrating World Habitat Day.
The celebration of World Habitat Day is done on first Monday of October that falls on 4th October every year. United Nations (UN) took the resolution of celebrating the day in 1985. However, the official celebration of World Habitat Day started in 1986.
The main aim of celebrating World Habitat Day is to raise awareness about the basic rights of shelter and responsibility of human being to secure home for future generation. Rapid growth of urbanization in the absence of proper planning and valuable resources creates problem to secure adequate housing for urban residents. The celebration of World Habitat Day has helped to overview influence of urbanization on human habitats and environmental scenario. Different countries have started celebrating the day in collaboration with national and international organisation.
The United Nation Agency for Urban Development has taken the initiative of introducing special award in order to praise the initiatives of creating human habitats and developing the living standard of life. Detailed description of the Winner’s achievements is shared during the time of offering the award. Different promotional and educational events are done such as seminars, lectures, social media campaigns to make people aware of the basic rights of adequate shelter. United Nations introduced different themes in every year to shed light on the current scenario of states and cities and basic opportunities of living. The main theme of World Habitat Day 2023 was ‘Resilient Urban Economies. Cities As Drivers of Growth and Recovery.’The discussion of experts helps to find out the power and responsibility of people to improve the living condition of current towns and large cities.
