Sir Isaac Newton is one of the greatest physicist and mathematician of all time. His contribution in the field of mechanics helped us to reach the modern era.
Sir Newton has given equations of motion, laws of motion and many more concepts. According to Newton’s 2nd law of motion,
“The rate of change of change of momentum is directly proportional to impressed force, and change in momentum takes place towards the direction of applied force.”
Then,
∴ Force = (change in momentum )/time
∴ Force = (mv-mu )/t
∴ Force = (m(v-u) )/t
∴ Force = m a
Where, acceleration, a= ((v-u) )/t
From the formula, SI unit of the force will be,
SI unit = kilogram. meter . (second )-2
= kg. m. s-2
Since the formula for finding the force was studied by Sir Isaac Newton, the unit of force is named after him. Hence the SI unit of force is now take as,
Newton.
∴ kg. m. s-2 = N
The full form for unit in written as newton (i.e. name starts with small letter) and the symbol is N (symbol is written in capital letters)
If one wants to convert newton in to CGS, then
We know that,
∴ 1 kg. m. s-2 = 1000 g. 100 m. s-2
∴ 1 kg. m. s-2 = 1000× 100 g.m. s-2
∴ 1 kg. m. s-2 = 〖10〗^5 g.m. s-2
here, g.m. s-2 is considered as dyne.
∴ 1 newton= 〖10〗^5 dyne
( where dyne is CGS unit force)

Q.1) Why the full form of unit ‘Newton’ is written in small letter?
Answer: According to sign conventions given by international system of unit, if the unit is named after a person, the full form of unit is written in small letters and its symbol is written in capital letter.
Q.2) How to convert 1000 newton in dynes?
Answer: We know that,
∴ 1 newton= 10^5 dyne
∴ 1000 newton=1000 × 10^5 dyne
∴ 1000 newton= 10^8 dyne
