Tommy and Margie found something about the schools of the past. Tommy found a real book which has been printed on paper. The book was old and the pages were yellow and crinkly At present, the words were moving on a television screen. The television had over millions of books. He had found the old book in the attic of his house. While reading Tommy found that it was about the old schools. Margie hated school because she was having problems with learning geography. The mechanical teacher was black and large with a screen. Margie hated the slot where she had to insert her homework or test papers .Margie did not understand how a person could be a teacher and how the students were taught the same thing. Then it was school time for Margie and Tommy. Margie went to the schoolroom in her house, where the mechanical teacher stood. She was thinking about the old school and how much fun the children had, learning and spending time together.

Answer: Margie is an eleven years old girl. She always hated her school. She does not get education from the school that we see now, she gets via tele books. She has a school room where her mechanical teacher teaches her on the screen. She got education digitally and the room has only one student and the mechanical teacher. There is no such thing as building . It is virtual class where she attends her class. Her mechanical teacher gave test after test in geography, the subject which she hated the most. After her poor marks she is sent for the county inspector. The test papers are written out in a punch code and the mechanical teacher calculated the marks in no time. In this way, Margie’s mechanical teacher and class are totally different from the traditional ones.

 

2) Why did Margie hate her school? What was she thinking about at the end of the story?

Answer: Margie hated her school because she had to attend the class regularly and no one around and just listen to her mechanical teacher. This was a monotonous thing for her. She hated her school even more when her mechanical teacher gave test after test in geography. The most hated part of her school was the slot where she had to put homework and test papers. She had to write them out in a punch code and her mechanical teacher calculated the marks in no time. When she gets to know about the old school systems she is amazed at how one teacher taught so many students at same time. She was thinking how everyone went to school laughing and shouting and having fun together. She also thought how they might have helped each other in doing homework and teacher were actually human beings unlike hers. The little could not stop thinking about how the kids must have fun.

 

3). What was strange about the ‘book’? Why did Margie find it strange?

Answer: Margie was used to telebooks. When she saw the ‘book’ for the first time , the pages were yellow and crinkly. She found it strange and funny that how the words were not moving and stood still. As she had read only telebooks, it was something new for her. And when she turned the pages it had the same words on it. She found all of these strange.
