Answer: The owner of the shop was Nagen uncle who was over sixty years old. He was a little rustic in appearance, with his white neatly-combed hair and clean look.He was wearing a dhoti and a blue striped shirt that could be seen from under a green shawl.

Answer: As a part of daily routine was that Sanyal used to go to Nagen’s tea shop and had tea and biscuits. He used to always pay as a sign of self-respect.
(3) Why was there a sudden change in Aditya’s expression?
Answer: Sanyal had recited the same poem that he recited on his prize-giving day to make Aditya remember about him, so Aditya’s expression suddenly changed.

Answer: This was said by Adtiya to Sanyal. He said so because he was a changed person and regretted for his actions.

(1) Give a detailed account of all thoughts and questions in the narrator’s mind while accompanying Aditya from the tea shop to Sanyal’s house?
Answer: When Sanyal deliberately recited the poem of Tagore at the tea shop to make Aditya remember about him, Aditya realized it was his school friend Sanyal. His expression changed and this made the narrator wonder about it. When the narrator asked him he didn’t answer him and drove to his ancestral home. The narrator did ask him if he wishedto see his home but he the intention different. When both reached his home he went in the attic and took the silver medal.The narrator asked and wondered why he had taken the medal. Then both went a jeweler’s shop and weighed the medal and stopped the car at JogeshKabiraj, here the narrator got confused and wondered why he had stopped there. At Jogesh’s house when Aditya and Sanyal had conversation about their 29 year old prize –giving event and Aditya confessing his mistake of stealing his medal, then the complete picture was clear to the narrator.
(2) ‘Man does change with time’-What were the various changes that came about in Aditya?
Answer: Aditya and his friend went to Aditya’s birth place. It was there Aditya wanted to visit Nagen uncle’s tea shop. When they both were having tea they saw a man who acted a bit weirdly and recited poem by Tagore. It was then Aditya realized it was his school-mate Sanyal. In school day, Aditya was a jealous of Sanyal and always lied. On one such occasion of their prize-giving day, Sanyal had got silver medal and this was not taken rightly by Adtiya. What Aditya did was he took his silver medal under the pretext of showing to his father and stole it. He lied to Sanyal that the medal fell off the hole of his pocket. But in the present time, Aditya was a changed person and wanted to rectiry his mistake so he goes back to his ancestral home and takes his medal. He then goes to Jogesh’s house where Sanyal was living and returns his medal. This shows that he was no longer any jealous man, he rectified his mistake.
(3) Give a brief character sketch of Sasanka Sanyal.
Answer: Sanyal was an intelligent man. He remembered everything from the past very well. At Nagen uncle’s shop it was he who remembered Aditya just by his mole of his right cheek. This tells how he had a good memory. Sanyal with sharp memory also had self-respect and always paid for his tea and biscuits at Nagen’s shop. His life was of tragic as he lost his son and wife. Back in school days, he was an intelligent boy and was always on the top. He even won a Special Prize for Recitation in 1948, he had won a silver medal. It was a prized possession for him. It was the same medal which was stolen by Aditya and kept in his attic. When Aditya returned it after 29 years, Sanyal was happy and cherished it. He was truly a man of ethics as he didn’t accept money offered by Aditya. He had self-respect.

Importance of Physical Activities
Being physically active plays an important role in one’s life. It gives numerous benefits. Not only physical benefits but it also gives emotional benefits to an individual. When a person is physically active one is enthusiastic and feels positive all day. There are many forms of physical activites that one can do. Simple things like walking too gives long term benefits to an individual. When one is physically active one becomes strong and have lot of energy in them.
Being physically active ensures many long term benefits. When one performs physical activity every day there is proper blood circulation. All the bodily functions work well when there is physical activities. It makes us strong and gives motivation.
They say health is wealth and indeed when one carries out any sort of physical activity on daily basis is free from diseases. It makes mood happy and releases toxins from the body. One must perform at least one kind of physical activity every day to ensure good health and happy life.
(ii) The service provided by the conservancy workers in your city is very poor. You find all the street corners dumped with garbage thrown by the residents of the locality. It causes a menace for the public at large. You are Ramya/Rajan of Class X, studying in TM Model School, Dharmapuri. Write an article in about 150-200 words to the editor of The Indian Express, about this and suggest ways by which the situation could be improved .
The problem of uncleanliness is taking toll on everyone these days. In our city too this problem is faced in major way. Our street corners are always dumped with garbage. This is not only harmful for humans but also it harms the animals. There are many elder people in the locality whose health might be affected by such things. Also it does not look good. Such open garbage invites diseases and also could prove fatal to everyone.
We had written an official letter requesting to look into the matter but there was no response. The residents should know that their acts would make them pay someday. Everyone should act like a mature human being and try not to harm the environment. There should be proper big dust bins/dumping ground where garbage could be dumped. With proper management and awareness we can together stop such acts.
(iii) Recently while returning home from school you were knocked down by a speeding motorcycle. You escaped with minor injuries. You are Kishore/ Kavitha of class XI, studying in GHSS, Coimbatore. Write an article to The Hindu, in about 150-200 words expressing your concern about the increasing number of road accidents due to reckless driving. Also stress the importance of following traffic rules.
There is a certain reason why we have traffic rules but there are some people who seem not to take it seriously. Now-a-days we can see increase in rash driving and due to it there is increase in accidents. Some accidents are so dangerous that it leads to death. Many young take pride in driving rash. Such careless people not only risk their lives but also they put others’ lives in danger.
Strict traffic rules should be imposed and order everyone to follow it. As a citizen we should be careful while driving and ensure safe driving. One should remember that someone is waiting for them at their homes. One must abide the traffic rules and be a responsible citizen.
