Even today after several years of Independence there has still been a mass divide among the urban and rural population in term of the urban development and facilities being provided to the urban population as compared to the rural population.
Rural and Urban divide caused a lot of differences among the population. India being one of the most populated countries in the world and is widely known for its rural and urban divide. The rural population is the majority in size in India, and is estimated to be more than half of the country’s population.
Rural arear have most of the times been ignored in terms of quality of living, sanitation facilities, road development works, education system, proper drinking water and other facilities, which makes living very difficult in the rural areas.
However, on the other side urban areas have always been given highest importance in terms of development facilities for health, education, sanitation, employment etc. This has caused huge difference among the urban and rural class of population. Thus, leading to further division.
The Government of India, has come up with various schemes and facilities to help the rural population to get the required basic housing, sanitation, drinking water, hygiene, education services etc. thus helping the rural population to be able to sustain and be self-reliant.
Government, has also been able to provide electricity and network facility by setting up towers in rural areas to facilitate the rural population to be aware and update themselves of the latest happenings in the country.
Yet a lot of rural population are being ignored of these facilities, as they are still unaware of the schemes launched by the Government for their benefit and well-being. Some of the political leader take advantage of this, by luring the poor from the rural areas to vote for them during elections by promising them with basic necessities and other facilities. Thus, creating their vote banks with these poor and marginalized rural population.
