Activity Sheet-39
Solve the following word problems:
(1) Find the largest numbers that exactly divides 360 and 456.
(2) Find the greatest number that can divide 342, 450 and 540 exactly.
(3) Find the least number exactly divisible 12, 15, 20 and 27.
(4) There are 527 apples and 748 oranges. These fruits are to be arranged in heaps containing the same number of fruits. Find the greatest number of fruits possible in each heap.
Solution: Number of apples = 527
Number of oranges = 748
Finding H.C.F. by prime factorization.
527 = 17 × 31
748 = 2 × 2 × 11 × 17
So, 17 heaps can be made
Apple = 527/17 = 31
Oranges = 748/17 = 44
Therefore, the number of apple = 31 and oranges = 44.
(5) Three measuring rods are 48 cm, 64 cm and 80 cm long. Find the shortest length that can be measured exactly by each one of these three rods.
(6) Three bells ring at a time. After that the first bell rings every 16 seconds, the second rings 20 seconds and the third rings every 28 seconds. After how much time will ring together again?
Ans: After 560 seconds the ring together again.
