I.) Answer the following questions in 1-15 words:
1.) Write the definition of mineral resources.
Ans: Mineral resources refer to those natural elements which have a specific chemical composition which are dug out from the earth surface
2.) Where do iron-ore is found in India?
Ans: Iron-ore is found in Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu.
3.) What are the uses of copper?
Ans: Copper is used to make tools, weapons, utensils, coinage, electrical wire and electric equipment.
4.) Name the famous gold mines in India.
Ans: Kolar and Hatti district in Karnataka, and Ramgiri in Andhra Pradesh are the famous gold mines in India.
5.) How should we use atomic minerals?
Ans: Atomic minerals should be used very carefully and should only be used for the development of the country by generating energy and not for destruction and pollution.
6.) What are the non-conventional sources of energy?
Ans: Solar energy, wind energy, sea-wave energy, hydro-electricity, geothermal energy, and atomic energy are the non-conventional sources of energy.
II.) Answer the following questions in 50-60 words:
1.) Write down a note on the importance of Bauxite.
Ans: Bauxite is an important ore from which aluminium is extracted. This is a clay type metal which contains aluminium oxide. Aluminium is being used in many industries on a large scale. It is used mainly in the manufacturing of utensils, electric wires, automobiles, railways, ships, aeroplanes etc.
2.) What is the importance of natural gas in our life and name the major areas in our country where it is found?
Ans: Natural gas is a very important energy source. Natural gas is very important in our life as it is usedfor cooking, as fuel for vehicles and in various industries.
It is found in India inmainly the Krishna-Godavari basin, Bay of Bengal-Orissa region, and the Barmer region of Rajasthan. It can also be found in Khambat and Kachh in Gujarati and Tripura regions.
3.) Name the important factors which are favourable for the generation of Hydroelectricity?
Ans: i.) The water source should be perinnial in nature
ii.) There should be required slope or height in the path of the water.
iii.) Sufficient amount of water for generation of electricity should be available.
iv.) There should be sufficient space behind the dam for reservoir or take of water.
v.) There should be demand for electricity in the area.
III.) Show one each important area of the following minerals and energy resources on the map of India:-
i.) Iron-ore
ii.) Manganese
iii.) Gold
iv.) Copper
v.) Mica
vi.) Bauxite
