I.) Answer the following questions in 1-15 words
1.) Which are the Natural Resources and who provides us?
Ans: Natural resources are natural gifts of nature which are very valuable to humans. It is provided by forests, minerals, soil, and solar energy
2.) List all the types of resources.
Ans: Biotic and abiotic resources, Developed and potential resources, Exhaustible and inexhaustible resources, Soil and Land resources, Marine and mineral resources, Human resources.
3.) Define ‘soil’.
Ans: Soil is the small and uppermost layer of the earth which is formed by breaking of parent rock.
4.) What do we get from Oceans?
Ans: Oceans supply us with biotic, mineral and energy resources, which includes fish, pearls, shells and diamonds.
5.) How can you conserve the resources properly?
Ans: All resources should be used carefully, should be recycled if possible and rules should be established regarding the utilization of the resources.
II.) Answer the following questions in 50-60 words:

2.) Write a short note on the importance of land and soil resources.
Ans: Land resources are being used for the purpose of agriculture, industry, to develop means of transport, sports and tourism.
Soil plays an important role in the growth of plants and crops which are important for the human life. Man prefers fertile soil because plant growth are beneficial there due to the essential nutrients present there.
3.) From where do we get the minerals and where are they used?
Ans: Mineral resources are substances which are taken out from the surface of the Earth. There are two types: metallic and non-metallic. Metallic minerals are iron, copper, gold, silver, and aluminium. Coal, mica, manganese, and oil are examples of non-metallic minerals. These minerals are the base of the industries and carry much significance.
4.) Explain the Developed and Potential resources with examples.
Ans: The resources which are used for some economic gains are termed as Developed resources. For example the gold, silver, coal and petroleum are found beneath the crust of earth whereas water, forests, solar energy etc, are found over the earth.
The resources which are available but are not being used or can be used in the future as called Potential Resources. The rivers descending the mountains can be used to produce electricity and, are included in the category of potential resources.When the water of these rivers is used to produce electricity then this water is known as a developed resource.
5.) Why should we use the exhaustible resources wisely and with hesitation?
Ans: The exhaustible resources must be used wisely and carefully because, these resources are depleting very fast fortheir continuous and excess use. As petroleum products are being used very fast. The time is not very far when there will be shortage or non-existence of such resources.
III.) Activity
Make a list of Hydroelectricity producing dams related to Punjab. Note down the names of rivers on which these dams are situated and names of districts in which these dams have been constructed.
Ans:
1.) The Ranjit Sagar Dam is a dam located in Punjab, India.The dam is also known as the Thein Dam since it is located in a river near the village of Thein in Jammu and Kashmir.
2.) Mirzapur Dam is located in the locality of Mirzapur mostly in district of Kurali Mohali, adjacent the Chandigarh Union Territory in the Punjab region. Furthermore, the dam is located in the Indus basin, on the Budki Khad river.
3.) Thana Dam is situated in Punjab’s Khawaja Khad area, roughly 2.5 kilometres from the Manhota hamlet in Hoshiarpur’s Dasuya district.
