(1) What was the role of the historical buildings in constructing the history of the Delhi Sultanate.
Ans: The historical buildings built during the Delhi Sultanate like – the Qutub Minar, Quwat-Al-Islam Mosque, Alai Darwaja, Tuglakabad, hauz khas, Lodhi Dome, Firoz-shah kotla etc provide us important information about the artistic taste of the Delhi sultans.
(2) How did Balban consolidate the Sultanate?
Ans: Ghiyas-ud-din Balban became the sultan of this Delhi Sultanate after the death of Nasir-ud-Din in 1266, and ruled from 1266 AD to 1286 AD. He brought under the control the unrest spread by the Mewatis war Delhi, crushed the revolt of Tughral Khan in Bengal. He kept a special army in north-eastern frontier in order to protect from Mongol invasions.
(3) Why did Muhammad-Bin-Tughlaq shift the capital from Delhi to Devagiri?
Ans: Muhammad-Bin-Tughlaq Shifted his capital from Delhi to Devagiri (Daulatabad) due to following reasons:
(i) He wanted to protect the empire from the Mongolian invasion.
(ii) He wanted a better administration of his empire in Devagiri than from Delhi.
(4) Describe the results of Schemes of Muhammad-Bin-Tughlaq.
Ans: Muhammad-Bin-Tughlaq was a powerful ruler of Delhi Sultanate from 1325 – 1351 AD. He was an educated and visionary person but most of his plans failed due to lack of experience. Some of the schemes introduced by him was – Bronze currency, Taxation in Doab, plans to conquer khurasan etc. He introduced Bronze coins during the period when there was a crisis of silver but it failed due to the presence of fake coins. The taxation in Doab faced a revolt from the farmers and was eventually withdrawn by him.
