Que. 2. Answer the questions in short:
1.) Where do nerves from all over the body meet?
Ans. Nerves arising from all over the body meet in a bundle in the spinal cord of nervous system.
2.) Name the parts of brain?
Ans. Human brain has three parts as: fore-brain, mid-brain and hind-brain.
3.) Name the main thinking part of the human brain?
Ans. Fore-brain is the main thinking part of the human brain.
4.) Which type of receptors are responsible for detection of smell/ fragrance?

Ans. The upward and/or downward growth of shoots and/or roots in response to the pull of earth or gravity is called as geotropism.
7.) What do you mean by hydrotropism?
Ans. ‘hydro’ means water. The growth or turning of plant roots or shoots towards or away from water is konwn as hydrotropism.
8.) From which components the spinal cord is made of?
Ans. Spinal cord is made up of many nerves.
9.) What is the main co-ordinating center of the body?
Ans. The brain is the main coordinating centre of the body.

10.) Name types of tropism you learned?
Ans. Phototropism, geotropism, hydrotropism and chemotropism are some of the types of tropism/ tropic movements.
11.) Name the plant hormones?
Ans. Auxin, gibberellins, cytokinin, ethylene and abscisic acid are the plant hormones.
Que. 3. Answer the following questions:
1.) What are the two different types of movements shown by plants?
Ans. Plants show two different types of movement –
a) Growth dependent and
b) Independent of growth.
2.) Identify the parts of a neuron:
i) Where information is acquired,
ii) Through which information travels as an electrical impulse, and
iii) Where this impulse must be converted into a chemical signal for onward transmission.
Ans. i.) Where information is acquired- dendrites
ii.) Through which information travels as an electrical impulse- axon
iii.) Where this impulse must be converted into a chemical signal for onward transmission- nerve terminal or Synapse
3.) What is cerebellum? What is its function?
Ans. Cerebellum is a part of the hind-brain. It is responsible for precision of various voluntary actions and also it helps in the maintaining the posture and balance of the body.
4.) Why do living beings shows movement? Explain with suitable examples.
Ans. Movement is an attempt done by living organisms to use changes in their environment as per their personal advantage.for example- a cat runs when it sees a mouse. Children play to get pleasure.
5.) Why we don’t eat food after having finished lunch?
Ans. We eat food when angry. But we stop eating by the sensation of feeling full is because of a centre associated with hunger in brain, which is in a separate part of the fore-brain.
6.) Name the hormones that are secreted by thyroid, adrenal and pancreas.
ans. Thyroid secretes thyroxin hormone,
Adrenalin is secreted by adrenal gland and
Pancreas secrete two hormones- insulin and glucagon.
7.) What is the function of peripheral nervous system?
Ans. The communication between central nervous system and the other parts of the body is facilitated by the peripheral nervous system which is consisting of cranial nerves which do arise from the brain. The main function of peripheral nervous system is the regulation of internal homeostasis of the body.
8.) Give the examples of reflex action?
Ans. jumping out of the way of the running bus, pulling hand back from the flame, watering of mouth after seeing the teasty food when hungry, all are the examples of reflex actions.
Que. 4. Answer the questions in detail:
1.) What is the need for evolution of reflex arcs in animals?
Ans. Reflex arcs are needed in animals because the thinking process of the brain of animals is not fast enough to deal with the emergency situations. Many animals have very little or none of the complex neuron network which is needed for thinking. Hence, reflex arcs have been evolved as an more efficient way of functioning in the absence of true thought processes to deal with the harmful condition more precisely.
2.) describe function of fore- brain in detail ?
Ans. The fore-brain is the main thinking part present in the brain. It has various regions to receive sensory impulses from various receptors. Separate areas are specialised for doing separate works such as hearing, smell and so on. This sensory information is interpreted by separate areas. While putting this information together with information from other receptors as well as with information that is already stored in the brain also goes on. On the basis of this, a decision is made about responding to the stimuli and the information is passed on to the various motor areas that controls the movement of voluntary muscles, for example, our leg muscles. In this way, our fore- brain functions.
3.) Enlist plant hormones and comment on their roles in plant body?
Ans. Plant hormones are the chemicals synthesized within the plant body that help to coordinate growth, development and responses to the environment.
Auxin, Gibberellins, Cytokinin, ethylene and Abscisic acid are the plant hormones.
The role of phytohormones are as follows:
- Auxin- helps the cells to grow longer
- Gibberellins- help in the growth of the stem
- Cytokinin- promote cell division
- Ethylene- helps in ripening of fruits
- abscisic acid- inhibits growth
4.) What are the components of the reflex action. Enlist all of them?
Answer: There are five main components of the reflex action. This are as follows:
(i) Receptors – this cells receive the message from the external environment.
(ii) Sensory neuron – it carries the message from the receptor organ towards the central nervous system.
(iii) Central nervous system – it processes the received message and sends impulses to the concerned part of the body in the form of a response.
(iv) Motor neuron – it carries the message from the central nervous system towards the effector organ.
(v) Effector – it includes muscles and glands that respond against the stimulus.
5.) differentiate between plant hormone and hormones secreted within the animal body?
Ans.
Plant hormone | Animal hormone |
Released in plant body | Secreted in the animal body |
No endocrine glands are present | Endocrine glands are present |
Transportation occurs through conductive tissues | Transportation occurs through blood |
Ex- Cytokinin, auxin | Ex- insulin, adrenalin |
6.) Name the hormones reponsible for the regulation of the following:
a.) Metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins
b.) That regulates sugar level in blood
c.) control of Blood pressure
Ans: a. Metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins- thyroxin
b.)That regulates sugar level in blood- insulin
c.) control of Blood pressure- adrenalin
7.) Explain why the leaves of sensitive plants (touch- me- not) get shrunk on touching its leaves?
Ans. sensitive plant is sensitive to touch and it responds to touch occurred by animals. Plant cells changes their shape in response to touch by changing the amount of water present in them, resulting in either swelling or shrinking, and thereby change in their shapes. In this way, the leaves of sensitive plats responds to touch stimuli.
8.) Fill the following table with appropriate words:
