Ans:- Because he had already cross this bridge and he will never again pass this way. Therefore there no need for the old man to build the bridge across the chasm.
(b) What explanation did he give to the fellow- pilgrim for his thoughtful deed?
Ans:- The old man said that he is experienced and is not afraid of the chasm. However, there might be a young inexperienced youth, for whom the chasm could prove to be a pitfall. He had to cross it at twilight. The old pilgrim was building the bridge to help this youth.
(c) What message does the poem convey to all of us?
Ans:- The poem conveys the message that we one must be generous and unselfish. Moreover, we must try to help others who are not as experienced as we are. Because today the world is filled with selfishness people like old man. Who protect the younger generation from pitfalls.
