Our need for food
(A) A potted plant is not growing well. It need help to grow better.
Ans: For growing any plants, it required proper care like watering and sunlight we should water the plant and allow proper sunlight every day. In this way, a potted plant will grow better and faster.
(B) (1) What major difference between plants and animals did you come to know from this lesson? Which difference did you know already?
Ans: The major difference between plants and animals are –
(i) Plants manage to get their own food whereas, animals need to search for their run food.
(ii) Plants cannot move from one place to another, whereas, animals can move or go from one place to another. Thus we already knew thus difference.
(2) From the following list of animals, pick out those that eat flesh and those that do not.

(3) A tiger cats flesh and so does a vulture. But there is a difference in their feeding habit. What is that difference?
Ans: The difference between a tiger eating flesh and a vulture eating flesh is that tiger hunt other animals and kill them with his sharp teeth and eats the flesh. But a vulture eats dead animals flesh with his sharp beaks.
(C) Animal The part of a plant that it eats
Goat –> leaves of various shrubs
Butterfly —> Nectar from flowers
Caterpillar —> leaves of plants
Mosquito —> suck the sap from the plants
(D) (1) what happens to us if we do not get enough food to eat?
Ans: If we do not get enough food to eat, we will feel tired and hungry often, because food gives us energy to work and function our body properly.
(2) Why do wild animals come to areas where people live?
Ans: Wild animals come to areas because they are starved for food and so they are forced to enter where people live.
(3) Why do foxes not hunt a cow even when they enter human settlements?
Ans: Foxes do not hunt a cow even when they enter human settlements because they are not as strong as tigers. So they are unable to kill any cattles.
(E) (1) How plants make their own food?
Ans: As we know that plants cannot move from place to place in search of food. So the roots of the plants absorb water from its soil and dissolves in the water. In this way the water reaches to the leaves of the plants. Moreover, there are small pores on the surface of the leaves through which air enters. Thus, air and water come together in this leaf. Therefore, plants get there win food through air and water in the leaves in the presence of sunlight.
(2) Why we need food
Ans: We need food to help our body grow faster. Food gives us energy to work and makes our body function properly.
(3) The food of pet animals
Ans: (i) Cows —> Grass, Hay, etc.
(ii) Horses —> Grass, Hay, Bengal Gram etc.
(iii) Goats and sheep —-> Grass, leaves of various shrubs
(iv) Cats —-> Milk, Mice, fish, meat
(v) Dogs —-> Chapatis, fish, meat etc.
