ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:
Q.) What was the entertainment arranged for by the hostess?
Ans. After a wonderful dinner, their hostess took them to a large drawing room. Chairs were being arranged and she said, “I’m arranging the chairs for a concert, we’re going to listen to a very good pianist.”
Q.) What was the writer’s reaction to classical music?
Ans. Though everyone else was very happy, the writer was not. He did not understand classical music and thought of himself as tone-deaf.
Q.) What do you learn from Einstein’s treatment to the young man?
Ans. We came to know that Einstein was a polite, humble and a patient teacher. How he took time to teach the writer step by step how to like and appreciate classical music.
Q.) Do you think the comparison between music and arithmetic was a good one? In what ways?
Ans. Basically there is no similarity between music and arithmetic, but we can learn both with step by step explanation. Thinking ability is also a criteria, both in music and arithmetic.
Q.) As far as listening is concerned, what difference do you notice between the writer and Einstein?
Ans. Einstein was fond of classical music and Bch was his favourite musician, whereas the writer was tone deaf and didn’t have any love for classical music.
Q.) How did Einstein help the narrator appreciate music?
Ans. Firstly Einstein made the writer hear Bing Crosby, who sang popular songs. The writer was able to sing the lines back, as he was familiar with the songs. Then he played a little more advanced songs by McCormack. And then Einstein took him from a level to higher level until he was playing just music without words. The writer was amazed that this great man was paying complete attention to him so that he could learn something new. The writer felt as if he was the most important person in his world.
Q.) What does the last line tell you about Einstein?
Ans. The last lines show that Einstein was an optimistic person, who believed in helping others and made them see the real beauty in everything. He was a very learned person, not just in his subject but had knowledge about different fields and topics and was a creative person as well.
