JEE Main 2024: How to get admission to NIT through the exam?
The JEE Main serves as the primary entrance exam for students seeking admission to various undergraduate engineering and architecture programs offered by NITs and other top engineering colleges across the country. To secure admission to NITs through the JEE Main, you need to fulfill certain eligibility criteria. Firstly, you must score equal to or above the JEE Main cut-off marks. At the second place, you should have achieved a minimum of 75% marks in your Class 12 board exams (65% of Reserved Category candidates) or be in the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective board exams.
Once you have cleared the JEE Main exam and fulfilled the eligibility criteria, you can participate in the centralized counselling procedure conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). During the counselling process, you will have to choose your preferred NITs and engineering branches based on your JEE Main rank and the availability of seats. The JoSAA conducts multiple rounds of counselling, and you can choose to freeze or float your seat allocation after each round. If you are allotted a seat in your preferred NIT and branch, you can freeze your allocation to confirm your admission.
Which factors determine the JEE main cut-off?
The exam’s cut-off score is based on a number of factors that are important to the selection procedure. Candidates can improve their preparation and improve their chances of passing the exam by being aware of these aspects.
- One of the primary factors that determine the JEE Main 2024 cut-off is the number of students who took the exam in total. If the number of candidates who appear for the exam is higher, the competition will be tougher, and the cut-off score will be higher.
- Colleges seat availability is another critical factor that determines the JEE Main 2024 cut-off score. If there are fewer seats available then the cut-off score will be higher and if they have lots of seats available then the cut-off will be lower.
- The cut-off score for JEE Main 2024 will be influenced by the previous year’s cut-off scores. For example, if the previous year’s cut-off score was high then the cut-off score for the current year will be high as well.
- The exam’s difficulty level is determined by the type of questions asked, the level of complexity, and the overall structure of the exam. If the exam is challenging, the cut-off score will be lower, and vice versa. In case of a difficult exam, the cut-off score is expected lower or it can be vice versa.
How many types of JEE cut-off are there?
- The JEE Main cut-off has two categories. The first one is the JEE Main qualifying cut-off that is announced by NTA. On behalf of participating institutes, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) released the JEE Main 2024 admission cut-off, which is the second type of cut-off.
- To appear for JEE Advanced 2024, candidates are required to achieve the JEE Main 2024 qualifying cut-off, which is the minimum score they need to secure in the entrance exam.
- On the other hand, to be eligible for admission to NITs, IIITs, CFITs, and other government or private institutions, candidates must meet the JEE Main 2024 admission cut-off, which is the minimum mark they need to obtain.
