Information Revolution refers to the present technological, social and economic shift that has taken place after the industrial revolution. It the era of various technological developments such as the discovery of internet and the cell phones. Information revolution enables a change in the way in which knowledge is communicated and accepted. The main aim of the information revolution is the ability to receive information and communicate that was never possible before. The information, microprocessor and telecommunication technologies were the threshold of information revolution. This brought changes bin the distribution of military, politicaland economic power. The revolution made radical changes in the way in which information is received, reserved, processed, communicated and utilized.
Effects of information revolution:
Compared to other economic revolutions, the information revolution brought about a series of technological improvements. Electronics, computer technologies, telecommunication provided the platform for economic change.The information revolution started in the year 1959 by two scientists Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce who jointly invented the silicon chip. The silicon chip inscribes information in a microscopic area that resulted in the mass production and distribution of computers. Owing to the vast power of memeory, control and calculation located in a microscopic chip, computers played the pivotal role in the economic life. Owing to this breakthrough, computers became the important infrastructure in office, telephone networks,control systems in transportation and industries for production. To expedite the process of communication, the Internet was discovered. The internet connects millions of computers across the world. Users use internet to transfer files from local to a distant computer or to read information. The World wide Web allows users to view a variety of information and also provides hyperlinks of other pages where the user can visit and look for the desired information. The discovery of fiber optic cables replaced the sturdy trunk cables. It carries the same information as the trunk cables do. This in turn has eased the setting of telephone systems. Mobile telephone networks are set up in many regions of the country. Satellites are installed for the benefit of data transmission, mass media images and telecommunication systems. The mass media assembles information from the globe, connect it to a satellite with transmitter and with the help of satellite broadcast the report to the world within a very short time. The invention of direct broadcast satellite and television satellite enable television reception anywhere and everywhere. The information revolution also started the era of economic globalization which was earlier not possible due to the geographic barriers. In the late 19th and 20th centuries the world had undergone a rapid economical globalization. The speed of receiving and sending information, the rapid rate of transaction between countries has boosted the economic development of the country. E- commerce is one of the remarkable discoveries of information revolution. E- commerce enables transactions in the remote areas starting from industrial equipment to groceries. E-commerce platforms namely E-bay and Amazon has contributed to the economic growth of online retail. The other ecommerce companies that are flourishing in India are MakeMyTrip, Flipkart, Just Dial, Nykaa, Zomato, Myntra and Grofers.

The information revolution has changed the world in a number of significant ways. The power of receiving and sending information is just at the snap of fingers. The revolution is changing the character of politics, global competition and politics. The availability of computers, mass media, telecommunications and other networks are changing the society in a drastic way. Also, it is transforming the international relation, economies of the nations and the societies of the world. Europe, Pacific Rim and North America have been affected due to information revolution. In short it can be said that, information revolution was much needed to upgrade the world’s economy right after the industrial revolution.
