Difference between Thrust and Pressure
Thrust
1) The pull or push acts on body due to external force is known as thrust.
2) Imagine that a brick is kept on tray containing sand, and the downward force is applying on in it as shown below, this force is nothing but thrust.
3) The force acting perpendicular to given surface is called as thrust.
4) The formula to find the thrust can be given as,
Thrust= Pressure × area
5) SI unit of thrust is newton (N)
6) When thrust acts on smaller areas its impact is large and when it acts on larger areas its impact is small.
7) The needle of injection, cutting knives should have sharp edges ( minimum area) to have maximum impact of thrust on it.
Pressure
1) The pull or push acts on body over unit area is known as pressure.
2) Imagine that a brick is kept on tray containing sand, and the downward force is applied over area ‘A’ of a brick as shown below, is nothing but the pressure.
3) The perpendicular thrust or force acting per unit area of given surface is called as pressure.
4) The formula to find the pressure is then given as,
Pressure= Thrust/ Area
Pressure, P= F / A
5) SI unit of pressure is newton/ meter2 (N/m2) or pascal (Pa)
6) Smaller is the area larger is the pressure and vice versa.
7) Edges of knives, needles are made sharp to exert large pressure with minimum value of force.
