Desert Animals Summary
We all know that deserts are the hottest place in the world. So in this chapter talked about some particular animals who easily survive in the difficult situations of deserts. As there is lack of food and water though they managed themselves and fight with thirst and hunger.
One is gerbils, who stay inside when the surface is very hot. Another is Darkling beetle who absorbs moisture from outside with their legs, then lifting them up in the air till it trickle to their mouth.
In the world more than 2300 different kinds of snakes lived in the world. Some snakes are poisonous and they can kill any one, and others are small and harmless.
Rattlesnake lived in dry rocky desert of America and very dangerous also, when it insecure by intruder. Then it seems threatened, and quickly coil and ready to bite. Rattle snakes kill their prey like mice, rats, voles and many other with venom. Large Pythons can survive without eating more than one year.
Mongoose is the another animal in desert, who mainly lives in grounds and eat small animals. Poke the holes with nose and scratch the ground. An interesting animal like mongoose are commonly spread in many parts of Africa. Their enemies like hawks, eagles, large snakes. But they are famous for killing deadly snakes, and firstly tease them until they would tired, without hurting next kill them. They warn each other with their code sounds. If they suspect anything wrong. In other side female mongooses grow up their kitten inside hollow log or old termite mount. When senior mongoose goes out for finding food, some other male guard them until they return.
Camel is very important animal of desert who survives there with their special effort. Camel usually makes up their groups up to 30 animals. Their shaggy coat gives them warm at winter time and short tidier coats keep them cool at summer time. It drinks 30 gallons of water during one time and can survive without water for months.
Dromedary and Bactrian are the two types of camel. One of them has a single hump but other has two humps and they have tough mouth. Desert animals can survive with the help of humps, cause it is actually a storage container for desert animal. This humps stores fat, don’t store water. This fat gives the camel energy during the scarcity of food.
