Ans: Factors affecting to the distribution of population-
Relief- Human habitation needs plain area where transportation system is good and river is situated nearby. The water of the river helps in agriculture, navigation, and to Fulfill many important purpose of human beings. On the other hand areas with poor transportation system for uneven plains, mountain and plateau region are not densely populated.
Climate- For the settlement of human beings favourable climate is much needed. It is the most important factor for the distribution of population. Extreme kind of climatic conditions are not preferred by mankind. For settlement they need favourable types of moderate climate.
(2) How do minerals and industries affect the distribution of population? Explain.
Ans: Distribution of population affected by-
Minerals – areas rich in great mineral products are densely populated. To set up an industry mineral is a key factor. People starts living into the industrial areas for employment and livelihood. Places equipped with iron ore, coal and petroleum are densely populated because these are very much needed to set up an industry.
Industry- industry based towns attract people to get employed. In this field wages are high comparing to the agricultural sector. As a result areas are densely populated.
(3) What is meant by literacy rate? Why is it considered an important indicator in population composition?
Ans: Percentage of people who can read and write in a particular country is called literacy rate. It is an important indicator in population composition because human resource is the primary capital of the development of a country. It strengthens a socio economic base of a country. It varies from place to place.
(4) Define sex-ratio. What are the reasons for the declining sex-ratio in India?
Ans: Ratio of number of females against per thousand males is called sex ratio. Reasons behind declining sex ratio in India are-
(i) High girl child mortality rate due to poor health care during childhood.
(ii) Preference of boy child than girl child and practice of female foeticide.
(iii) Mortality rate is uneven between girls and boys due to poor medical facilities.
