Countable nouns are those different nouns like proper common, material, concrete, compound which can be counted. It is certain that countable nouns have both singular and plural forms.

Rules of Collective Noun

i) For singular countable nouns a number, an article and possessive adjective will be used before singular countable nouns.
Ex.
Mr. sharma is the principal of our college.

ii) In case of singular countable noun article a will be used before words starting with a consonant and a noun or adjective will come after it.
Ex.
I want buy a mobile phone of the latest brand.
Please pass me the black notebook.
iii) Article ‘an’ will be used for countable nouns starting with any vowels.
Ex.
The boy caught an insect near the forest.
Doctors advise to eat an apple a day.
iv) For singular count nouns article the will be used when the same noun will be mentioned before in other sentence.
Ex.
You needed to buy an important book. Here I have brought the book.
We went to take an interview of an artist. He is the artist.
v) For plural countable nouns numerical words like two, three, four will be used for mentioning plurality.
Ex.
I have bought four pairs of new earrings form the shop.
She has taken two pairs of spectacles from the showroom.
vi) Some quantity words and determiners like more, most, a lot of, both, some, any, several, few, a couple of etc. can be used before plural countable nouns.
Ex.
I had several friends during college days.
We just take a couple of dresses for any short trip.
My father bought a lot of groceries from the store.
vii) Possessive adjectives can be used for both singular nouns and plural countable nouns.
Ex.
She loves her grandmother very much.
We will visit the temple by our car.
viii) Some words can be countable and uncountable nouns in the same form based on the meaning and context of the sentence.
Ex.
I drink a glass of milk every day before sleep.
We should drink at least eight glasses of water every day.
