Components of Food Summary
1.) Components of food
Carbohydrates , Proteins fats minerals vitamins water and fiber / roughage All these are the components of food.These components of force are necessary for our body and are called nutrients.
2.) Nutrition
It is the process of taking food necessary for good health and growth of living organisms .
3.) Diet
The amount of food taken by an individual at a time is called diet of that person.
4.) Balanced diet
The diet that comphrise Of the right amount of all nutrients, oh good amount of roughage and water to meet our body needs it’s called balanced diet.
Food components
A.) Energy giving food – Carbohydrates, fats.
B.) Body building food – Proteins.
C.) Protective food- Vitamins minerals.
Carbohydrates- Carbohydrates are energy giving food and are mostly present as starch.
Source – Potato, rice, wheat etc.
Taste for starch / carbohydrates:
Carbohydrates present in all Food items are tested by iodine test. Few drops of dilute iodine solution is added to sample food items.If the colour change from brown to blue- Black.The presence of starch is confirmed.
5.) Proteins
Proteins are bodybuilding food,They help in growth of our body.
Source:- Eggs, meat, soybean etc.
Test for proteins:
Proteins in the food sample is tested by copper sulphite and caustic soda solution
A.) Take food sample and add some water to it then mix it well.
B.) Now put the look copper sulphate solution and 20 drops of postic soda solution over it.
C.) If the color of the resulting solution is changed to purple. The presence of protein is confirmed.
6.) Fats
Fats are high energy giving food but are needed in a moderate amount by the body.

Test for Fats:
Fats in the food is taste by simple pepper taste.
A.) Take a food sample and a drop it inA piece of paper and crush it.
B.) Paper gates are oily patch, the presence of fat In the food is confirmed.
7.) Dietary fiber / Roughage
Dietary fibers do not provide any rich nutrition to our bodies did are important components of food. It helps our body to get rid undigested food.

8.) Deficiency diseases
Diseases that occurs due to lack of nutrients over a long period are called as deficiency diseases.
1.) Vitamin A deficiency cause loss of vision.
2.) Vitamin D deficiency causes Rickets.
3.) Lack of iron causes anemia.
4.) Lack of iodine quantity in our body causes goiter.
5.) Lack of calcium causes deficiency bone and tooth decay
