CBSE Competency Based Questions for Class 6: Competency based questions are newly added pattern by CBSE board as per the NCERT curriculum. The main aim for including competency based, creative questions & critical questions in Class 6 CBSE exams is to increase critical thinking and problem solving skills of students. Students were so used to learn only for their curriculum and scoring good marks on school exams only. There was lack in out of the box thinking or thinking beyond students’ comfort zones. Format of Competency Based Questions:
Competency based education is the learning approach to enhance specific skills and talents of children that lie within them instead of solely spreading knowledge. The main aim is bring major change in students’ expectation from their learning outcomes. The assessment based practice of CBQ focuses more on developing practical skills and competencies than just basic learning. Competency based question covers 40% of the total questions including types of multiple choice questions, case based questions and source based integrated questions. Students will be asked questions that are based in case studies, reason, assertion, objective and response based etc. the situations and stories will be given from real life applications in different mediums to analyse students’ high level thinking pattern.
Importance of it in Learning:
Competency based questions of class 6 are mainly formatted to develop values of education within students. There will be value based, creative questions & critical questions too in CBQs of class 6. CBQ mainly focuses on learning outcomes of students and helps them to attain their proficiency level in all subjects. Questions are learner-centred which enable students to be adaptive with the changing needs of students, learning environment, modern society, modern resources etc. students of class 6 should view their CBQ structure and practice writing answers and solving the problems for their better preparation. They do not need to think hard about it as CBQ will be based on our regular life situations and real life scenarios. So, students must be mentally prepared to face challenges and solve any given queries instantly that is the purpose of CBQ.
Competency based question is newly added pattern in CBSE board question. After the release of new education policy this is another changing method of assessing students’ learning outcomes. With the changing scenario learning outcomes and learning expectations should also be different to prepare students. Competency based questions are mainly aimed at developing practical skills which will be effective in their professional career.
