Unit-I Reading
Unseen Passages (Two)
Selected Pieces:
(1) One Unseen Passage of 400-450 words
(a) Short answer type of questions to test local, global and inferential comprehension.
(b) Vocabulary
(2) Note Making of a passage of about 200 words
(a) Note making in an appropriate format
(b) Summarising
Note: The passages will include two of the following types:
(a) Factual passages e.g. instructions, descriptions, reports
(b) Discursive passage involving opinion e.g., argumentative, persuasive or interpretative text.
(c) Literary passage e.g. extract from fictions, dramas, essay or biography.
Section – B
Unit-II Advanced Writing Skills
(a) One out of two short compositions of not more than 50 words each e.g. advertisement and notices, designing or drafting posters, writing formal and informal invitations and replies.
(b) A report or a factual description based on verbal input provided (one out of two) (100-125 words)
(c) Letter Writing:
(i) Business or official letters (for making enquiries, registering complaints, asking for and giving information, placing orders and sending replies).
(ii) Letters to the editor (giving suggestions on an issue)
(iii) Application for a job.
(d) Grammar (MCQ)
(e) Precis Writing
(f) Compositions – based on a visual and/or verbal input of descriptive or augmentative nature such as an essay or an article for publication in a newspaper or a school magazine/debate/speech in about 125-150 words (one out of three)
