Answer: There are two poles in a magnet: North Pole and South Pole
2.) What are the clean sources of electricity and why?
Answer: The Sun, wind, water are the clean sources of electricity as they don’t occur pollution while producing electricity.
3.) What is the purpose of a switch in a circuit?
Answer: A switch is used to connect or break an electric circuit.
4.) What is called an insulator?
Answer: Materials that do not allow current to flow are called insulators. Example: Rubber, glass, wood etc.
5.) What is unlike pole?
Answer: When two magnets are kept together, the opposite poles are known as unlike poles. The Positive and Negative poles are unlikely to each other.
Descriptive answer questions
1.) Describe the characteristics of a magnet.
Answer:
i.) A magnet has two poles i.e. the North Pole and the South Pole.
ii.) Poles can never be separated, they exist in pairs.
iii.) Opposite poles attract and like poles repel each other.
iv.) When suspended freely from a thread, a magnet situates itself in North-South direction.
2.) State the differences between series and parallel connection.

3.) What are closed and open circuits?
Answer: When a switch is turned on, the circuit has no gap in it, allowing flow of current. So the circuit is closed.
When a switch is tuned off, the circuit has a gap in it, denying the flow of current. So the circuit is open.
Example: A bulb is a closed circuit when switch is on and open circuit when switch is off.
4.) Explain how electricity is produced from water?
Answer: Water is stored in dams, allowing it to flow through turbines that are connected to hydroelectric power plants. When the turbines spin rapidly, they generate electricity.
5.) What is voltage?
Answer: The difference in level of charge between the positive and negative ends of a battery is called Voltage. Voltage is the essential parameter for current flow in a circuit.
