C1. long answer questions
1.) “What cinema needs above everything else is a style, an idiom, a sort of iconography of cinema, which would be uniquely and recognizably Indian”. How far this applies to Indian cinema today? Discuss
According to Satyajit Ray’s opinion Indian films are mostly made with the intention of gaining mass popularity and also making profit. cinemas can definitely be used as a tool of change to break age-old taboos and social evils and bring a reform in the society; however we should not try to change ourselves in accordance with the dictates of western cinema. our lifestyle is not similar to that of people living in a western civilization. Hence to think that we will be able to adopt A lifestyle similar to them or in fact should adopt A lifestyle like them is impractical.
2.) should cinema be looked upon as a form of creative expression? Give reasons
No cinema should not only be looked at as a form of creative expression it should also be combined with other forms of art such as music painting, action etcetera such that minor arts are also promoted along with it.
3.) Do you think that Indian films have certain basic weaknesses? Illustrate your answer citing examples from films you have seen.
it’s
Yes I certainly do think that Indian films have a weakness and the biggest weakness is that directors and filmmakers are often too afraid to portray the real image to the audience.
The recent film that I have seen goes by the name of brahmastra even though it is a film based on fantasy there are a lot of unnatural elements with unexpected and poor acting skills from very famous actors. Even though the cinematography and visual effects are great, the film falls flat when it comes to the story.
4.) What is the most dominant influence on the Indian films ?
American films have had a dominant influence on Indian films. Many Indian film makers have followed the pattern of American filmmaking and have successfully been able to make great films. Even though Indian films are highly commercialised and known for over the top music some of the filmmakers have taken a different approach and have focused on the technical aspects more as well as creating a very simple background score for their films.
5.) What aspects of the American films do our films imitate? Is it justified in our context?
The most imitated aspects of American films are the way of storytelling, the script writing and a different type of height on background music. It is not justified nor shall it be that Indian films blatantly copy from American films even though the topic and context of the film it’s purely Indian and based on its culture. it is required that even when Indian films adapt from American films they should ensure a good blend of both the forms of cinema.

2.) Write an impression of a Hindi film which you have seen recently
I am not a very big film buff but I enjoy watching a good cinema with a nice background story. I usually prefer genres like comedy, thriller and fiction. Very recently I had to accompany my friends to watch a new film by the name of brahmastra. This was a completely new experience for me since I am not in too much of a sci-fi movie. the actors had given up a good performance. However I’m very critical about the film’s success. In my opinion it was nothing more than an average film. And for films like this to excel I think The X Factor should be the story line not a robust starcast. The film fails to deliver a great story as well as her great narrative. Hence I would like to say that it was a one time pleasant watch. it’s
