Beti Bachao Beti Padao Essay : Beti Bachao Beti Padao is one of the campaigns initiated by the Government of India to provide facilities, awareness and education needs towards the girl child in India. This campaign was a women and girl child empowerment initiative. The campaign was launched in 2015 with a funding of Rs. 100 Crore covering the northern states of India.
The main initiative of this campaign was to save the girl child, as due to female foeticide there the boy child ratio began to rise as compared to the girl child. This was due to sex based selection conducted by using ultrasound technology, making pregnant women to know the sex of the child before they were birth. Due to lack of education and poverty the female foeticide cases were on the rise.
Another reason for this campaign was to promote education and job opportunities to the female class of the society. This was done so that they are able to self sustain their livelihood.
The Government of India formed a committee to enhance the programme all over the country, by organizing programs to save the girl child and educate the girl child.
Despite the Government initiatives and funding for this campaign, the sex ratio still has not improved but kept declining. This was due to the in adequate funding in publicity and wide awareness on this campaign to reach every corner of the country, rather the government focused more on health and education measure.
The Beti Bachao Beti Padao scheme need to be made social and high level of awareness need to be generated, strict measure against female feoticide must be taken up to save the girl child.
