(a.) What was the meaning of Panchayat long ago?

Ans:- Panchayat referred to a form of government run by five senile men known as Panch Gramin Pramukh. Their word served as the law. The villagers respected their Gram Pramukhs, thus there was no fighting among them, since all the villagers trusted in the Pramukh’s decision.

(b.) What is the meaning of Panchayat Now?

Ans:-  Everyone above the age of 21 can now run in Panchayat elections. A Panchayat is the organisation in charge of a village’s development. The Panchayat is a crucial institution for social transformation. The Indian Constitution gives the Panchayat authority to levy taxes, devise development plans, and promote local development.

(c.) What kind of work is done by the Panchayat?

Ans:- The Panchayat undertakes developmental activities such as constructing and maintaining rural roads, bridges, affordable housing, and so forth.

(d.) From where does the panchayat get money to perform all its work?

Ans:- The Panchayat receives funding from all the taxes levied on vehicles, river ghats, market places and Beels. The Panchayat and Rural Development Department of the government provides the Panchayat with a grant each year.
