Actinomycetes/Actinobacteria
- They belong to phylum Actinobacteria and family actinomycetes.
- They are prokaryotic in nature.
- Actinobacteria are also called as true bacteria but somehow, they resemble with fungi also.
- They are also called as filamentous bacteria because they have ability form elongated filaments.
- Actinobacteria are usually Gram positive, non-motile and non-spore forming.
- They are usually found in chains or filaments with branches.
- Actinobacteria are normally called as soil saprophytes.
- Actinobacteria are can be aerobic, anaerobic and facultative anaerobic.
- As they are soil saprophytes, earthy smell after the rain is because of actinobacteria.
- Actinobacteria can cause various infection by producing toxins.
