Telanagana State Board Class 7 Science Chapter 15 Soil Our Life Solution:
(1) How can you say soil is a precious resource? Give reasons.
Ans: – Soil is the uppermost layer of earth crust. It is one of the most important natural resources.
It supports the existence of living organisms. We can use soil for different things in our surroundings. Directly or indirectly depend on soil.
The soil supports all plants, animals and a micro organism for example a pot may be directly mode from soil. But a wooden chair is derived from tree which depends on soil. We depend on soil for construction of house, making utensils, toys etc.
So we can say soil is precious resources.
(2) Which type of soil is suitable for growing cotton?
Ans: – Sandy loam on black soil is suitable for growing cotton because it contains enough hummus.
(3) Give reasons for low percolation rate in clay soil when compound to sandy soil.
Ans: – There is low percolation rate in clay soil because there is very low or less gap between the soil particles. But the particle of sandy soil that contains high percolation rate in it, because sandy soils. Particles are big and it allow to pass the water easily.
(4) Why is top soil more useful for us?
Ans: – A Horizon the layer is called top soil. Top soil is made up of humus (decomposed organic matter) mixed with mineral particles. For this reason seeds germinate and plant roots grow in this dark coloured layer. So top soil is more useful for us. Top soil is the best because it’s very fertile soil and plants or crops will grow faster.
(5) What types of soil are there in your village? Make a list of crops grown on these soils.
Ans: – Sandy soil, Clayey soil, Loamy soil.
(1) Sandy soil: – Sandy soil is not good for melon and coconut grow better in sandy soil. The crops as millets, barley, and maize can grow in this sandy soil.
(2) Clayey soil: – This soil contains of very fine particles of clay, that holding capacity of water is very high.
The crops like paddy, sugar cane are grow in this soil.
(3) Loamy soil: – This soil contains enough hummus. It also consists of sand, clay and silt. So it has a good water holding capacity. Suitable crops like wheat, sugarcane, cotton, jute, pulses, also vegetables groe well in this soil.
(6) It a farmer wants to improve water holding capacity of his sandy soil field what would you suggest him?
Ans: – The farmers need to improve the nature of this samdy soil.
Because sandy soil does not hold water in fine way, it has large sized particles which do not hold water. For this reason the sandy soil is unfit for the growth of most of the plants.
To improve the water holding capacity of sandy soil there are added to increase water holding capacity by adding clay soil manures.
Here also adding by decomposable plant animal dung, sludge to make improve the sandy soil into a good water holding soil.
(7) Do you think rotting vegetation and animal remains are important for the soil? In what way?
Ans: – Yes, rotting vegetation and animal remains are important for the soil because of the following reasons –
(1) The decomposition of the vegetable and animal remains is useful for the soil to improving its quality.
(2) Decomposition of vegetables and animal remains to provide nutrition in the soil and also it go through the soil to the plant.
(3) Rotting vegetation and animals remains when getting waste, then it contains calcium, minerals that improve the soil quality. SO it will make the soil fertile and also it helps for, plants growth.
(8) Roots of grasses hols soil particles. This conserves the __________
Ans: – Soil erosion.
(9) Which of the following statement is correct? Correct the wrong one.
* Soil form from sand.
* Crop rotation protects soil fertility.
* Clay soil can’t hold water for a long time.
* Upper layers of soil are made of rocks.
Ans: –
(1) Soil form from sand is wrong, because soil is formed from the earth’s crust.
(2) Crop rotation protects soil fertility is correct statements.
(3) The statement clay soil can’t hold water for a long time is incorrect statement. Because clay soil is too sticky, clay soil have high capacity to retain water.
(4) Upper layers of soil are made of rocks this statement is correct.
(12) Nazmal’s grandmother said “Human beings always depend on soil” is she correct. How do you support her statement?
Ans: – Human beings can’t live without soil, it is also an essential components in our lives. Human uses soil for various purposes. Most of our daily life activities are closely related to soil.
So we can say the above sentence is correct.
Soil gives support to make our home or house where we can live. From the soil we get food to eat and plant which gives us oxygen. It can help us to survive in this world. Soil gives support to carry water on it which we can drink so humans are always dependent on soil, they done their every work by the support of soil.
(15) If you have a chance to talk with a soil scientist, which questions would you like to ask him about soil?
Ans: – Some questions are –
(i) What is soil? How it is made?
(ii) Why black soil is useful for growing crops?
(iii) Does pollution affect soil quality?
(iv) What are the reasons behind the soil erosion?
(v) How can we protect soil?
(vi) Suggest any methods for soil conservation?
(16) Do you find any relationship between the chapter ‘soil’ and “Nutrition on plants”. What are they?
Ans. The soil supports all plants. Plant get nutrients from soil, for their growth and soil also help plant to gain water. So soil is the major source of nutrients, plants needed, nitrogen, food, which they found in soil for their fast growing. Plants roots are existing in soil, for this reason they will strongly stand on soil. For all these reasons soil is important for nutrition and also for plants.
