(i) ___________ are the respiratory organs of fish.
Ans: – The gills
Reasons: The read coloured gills are the respiratory organs of the fish. The gills absorb the oxygen that is dissolved in the water. This oxygen is carried to different parts of the body.
(ii) In a cockroach, a network of ______ is found.
Ans: – Trachea
Reason: – The network of respiratory tubes called trachea, it helps the cockroach to breathe. It takes air from spiracles and circulates throughout all the body.
(iii) ________ are found on leaves for the exchange of gases.
Ans: – Stomata
Reason: Stomata are present on surface of leaves and it helps in gaseous exchange.
(2) What is respiration? How is it different from breathing?
Ans: – In which process oxygen is taken in while carbon dioxide and water vapour are released. This process is called respiration. Respiration occurs in all organisms.
In breathing process all organisms inhale and exhale air. But respiration involves whole breathing process along with gaseous exchange

Ans: – frog is able to stay on land in water and even underground. To breathe on land it has lungs. Frogs goes deep underground and sleeps there for long period. This time its moist skin takes over the function of it’s breathe though their skin as well as their lungs.

(5) If you did this experiment of respiration with fruits and dry leaves, what could the result be? Explain.
Ans: – In the case of fruit, it contains metabolic activity. Respiration process helps in this case as metabolic activity requires such energy, which comes from respiration and it helps to produce carbon dioxide water and heat and as a result it helps to ripen the fruits (very slowly process).
In the case dry leaves, here chlorophyll breaks down. For this reason dry leaves stop their food making process, so green colour also disappear and it becomes quite yellow or oranges in colour.
(7) Do you find any relation between plants and animals by their respiration and photosynthesis?
Ans: – Yes, there is a relation between respiration and photosynthesis. These both activities are connected to each other and depend on each other.
In the process of photosynthesis plants use carbon dioxide in the present of sunlight, water to make their food materials. Carbon dioxide is a factor for photosynthesis, which is uses by all the green plants to make their food and energy, and also oxygen. Photosynthesis is more completed.
But in the other hand in the process of respiration animals inhaling oxygen and inhaling carbon dioxide. So when animals exhale carbon dioxide in nature, plants take this carbon dioxide for their photosynthesis. That means animals give plants carbon dioxide while plants give animals oxygen. SO we can say that respiration and photo synthesis is inter related.
(8) Asif wondered how plants and animals which live under water also respire do you know how?
Ans: – Some animals live under water have special respiratory organs to take dissolved oxygen in water. These organs like gill and skin which help them respire under water.
Some as aquatic plants have special mechanism which help them to exchange of gasses. They give oxygen in water and take carbon dioxide in return. Aquatic plants are able to absorb this carbon dioxide and they make their food directly from the water.
