WHAT IS MAN WITHOUT THE BEASTS ?
Answer the following questions.
1) Why does Chief Seattle say that the Earth is sacred to his people?
Answer: Chief Seattle says that the earth is sacred to his people because it is sacred place. It is precious. It is the sacred blood of the ancestors. It a part of the people.
2) The speaker says, ‘I am a savage’. Who do you think is a savage, the Red Indian or the White? Why?
Answer: Chief Seattle is a Red Indian and loves the mother earth. He is someone who worships the nature and respects it .He says that he is savage because he lives in the nature and adapts its culture unlike the White who destroys the nature under the pretext of modernization and industrization. In fact the Red Indian is close to the nature and does not give up on it.
3) Why does the Chief say ‘The destiny is a mystery to us’?
Answer: For the Chief, nature is precious. It is sacred. He does not understand why the Whites want to dominate them by harming the nature. He does not feel right to hurt the nature. He doesn’t understand why the Whites want to kill the animals and the trees for their benefit, he is completely against their selfishness. This is why he says that the destiny is a mystery to them.
4) “What is man without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone, man would die from a great loneliness of the spirit.” Why?
Answer: In the nature there is a cycle, one is dependent on the other. This is the rule of life not just in human beings but it exist in the nature too. If there are no beasts then the man would die because there is depenedence of each element of the nature on one another.
5) Is man the sole owner of the Earth? Pick out sentences from the speech to justify your answer.
Answer: No, man is not the sole owner of the earth. There are many other species that live on the earth and they all have their own existence and importance.Right from a small insect to the big animal, every creature belongs to the nature. The perfumed flowers are our sisters; the deer, the horse, the great eagle, these are our brothers. The rocky crests, the juices in the meadows, the body heat of the pony, and the man, all belong to the same family-these lines show that we all belong to the nature.
6) Why does the speaker say that if we spit on the ground, we spit on ourselves?
Answer: We are part of the earth and the earth is a part of us. When we spit on the ground we are harming ourselves than the earth. We are the ones who live on the earth and by spitting we are not just ruining the earth, but we are creating problems for ourselves.
7) “All belong to the same family.” The speaker says this to mean ………..

Adilabad has the lowest pollution intensity. With growing indsutrialzation and urbanization, there is lot of pollution. One can implement techniques from the lowest pollution intensity areas and lead a pollution free life.
