I) Answer the following questions.
1) What is the main purpose of giving homework to children?
Answer: The main purpose of giving homework to children is to make their understanding stronger which they learn at school, and ultimately to help them learn the material better.
2) How can excessive homework decrease students’ interest in studies?
Answer: If there is excessive homework given to the students, then they tend to lose their interest and become negative regarding the subject/homework. They feel the burden of the homework and chooses the short cut way to complete it without the need to understand the meaning of it.
3) Why do many teachers defend large amounts of homework?
Answer: Many teachers believe that large amounts of homework makes strong enough to face the competitive world. They think that homework makes the students to survive in this cut-throat world. They think that homework is the besttool to make the students face any problem in life.
4) How does homework take time away from important elements of daily life?
Answer: Due to excessive homework, one does not get time to spend with the family, friends. All work and no play make Jack a dull boy-this a proverb in English that can be aptly applied in the given situation of homework. When a child is given huge amount of homework, he/she does give time to the family, families and even himself/herself. The time that can be utilized for something else is given to the homework. Spending time with family, friends, having fun are some of the important things that a child must have only then the child is developed emotionally, but when he/she does not get enough time for these things, his/her development hampers.
5) Is the writer in favour of or against homework? Support your answer.
Answer: Neither the writer is in favour nor against the homework. The writer feels that the children should not be burdened with huge amounts of homework as it could take a major tll on their emotional and physical development as well. The writer says that by giving creative kind of homework, the interest of the children can be increased. The writer feels that there should limited homework.
