Following are some important fundamental quantities viz. mass, length, time, temperature, plane angle, intensity of light etc.
Mass is the fundamental quantity which do not depends upon any other quantity for its measurement. “The quantity of matter enclosed in the substance is known as mass.”
Mass of body remains constant all positions on the surface of earth as well as in the universe. It provides the inertia to the object at rest as well as in motion.
SI unit of mass is taken from quantity of water in 1000 cubic cm.
Thus the SI unit of mass is kilogram. Its symbol is ‘kg’.
CGS unit of mass is gram, and its symbol is ‘g’
Along with kilogram, some commonly used units of mass are,
1.) Tonnes, where 1 tonnes = 1000 kilogram
2.) Pounds, where 1 pounds = 0.4532 kilogram
3.) Ounces, where 1 ounce = 0.02834 kilogram

Q.2) Which is commonly used unit in measurement of grains?
Answer: Quintal is the most commonly used unit for measurement of substances like grains, groceries etc.
1 quintal is equal to 100 kg.
