b) Soil conservation
c) Soil pollution
d) Soil fertility
Answer:- a) Soil erosion
Clearing of the forest expose the land and soil to the sun. And these causes the dryness of the soil which leads to the soil erosion.
Very Short Answer Questions
12) Why is it important to conserve forests?
Answer:- It is very important to conserve forests to maintain the balance of the nature. Deforestation leads to increase in the temperature, and pollution on the earth. Deforestation will also leads to decrease in the ground water level. Cutting of the forests will increase the natural disasters like floodsand droughts. Plants take in Carbon dioxide and thus helps in the decrease in global warming. Deforestation will be lead to soil Pollution and warming up of the earth surface. Deforestation will also be impacted on the wildlife. Thus we should conserve forests
13) Mention any one action that you have undertaken to conserve trees.
Answer:-
To conserve forests the first and main action is to spread awareness about the Harmful, hazardous effects of deforestation on the earth and also on the human life. These awareness will lead to decrease in deforestation. Humans will understand why we should avoid cutting trees.
One more action we can take to protect trees and that is to save paper or recycling of paper. These will also decrease the deforestation.
14) State whether the following statements are True Or False. Correct the false statements.
i) There can be a wildlife sanctuary within a Biosphere reserve.
Answer:- True
ii) plants of a particular area are Collectively termed as fauna.
Answer:- False
Plants of particular area are collectively termed as flora.
iii) Deforestation leads to an increase in the water holding capacity of the soil.
Answer:- False
Deforestation leads to an Decrease in the water holding capacity of the soil.
iv) Bison is an endemic fauna of Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve.
Answer:- True
15) Can a forest regenerate naturally in a short period of time?
Answer:- Forests can be regenerate naturally. If we keep a larger area undisturbed for longer period of time. Then there will be large trees and plants grown up naturally. But growing of forest takes several years. It will not happen in short period of time. Complete Growth of trees needs much time period. It depends upon the type of species of trees again.
16) Name the first Reserve Forest of India.
Answer:- Satpura National Park is the first Reserve Forest of India. It is present near the Pachmarhi wildlife sanctuary.
Short Answer Questions
17) Why are wildlife sanctuaries important for conservation of plants and animals?
Answer:- Wildlife sanctuaries are the reserve forests which provides protection to the wild animals and also it provides suitable Living conditions to animals. Wild life sanctuaries protect most of the endangered animals. It also keeps the forest safe from people living over there. Pachmarhi wildlife sanctuary is an example of these. These wildlife sanctuary are also protected with human activities.
18) Why are endemic organisms in greater danger of becoming extinct?
Answer:- Endemic species are found only in certain particular area. The plants and animals of specific species found in certain area these are known as endemic species. An endemic species found in particular zone of state or country. These are not naturally found in other area. It does not adapt to live at any other place. The disturbance to these species will affect to them. An example of these iswild mango anendemic flora of Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve. One more example of endemic species is an Indian giant squirrel and flying squirrel are endemic fauna of Pachmarhi Biosphere.
19) How are even small animals important in an ecosystem?
Answer:- Small organisms are even small in size or but they plays an important role in the ecosystem. An ecosystem is an combination of all the living organisms which includes all the plants, micro-organisms and animals and some non-living components such as soil, river, climatic conditions, etc. These are important in food cycles and food webs. Thus an small organisms also plays an important role in the ecosystem.
20) A new species X is introduced in a forest. How it is likely to affect the local species of that area?
Answer;- The formation or introduction of the new species in the forests may affect on the already present species. The existing local species may be in danger due to the competition for living over that particular area.
21) Does soil erosion affect the fertility of soil? How?
Answer:- Yes. Soil erosion affect the fertility of the soil. Soil Pollution or erosion of the soil affect on the top layer of the soil. The upper layer of the soil get exposure to the sun or raining water which causes the erosion. The main upper layer of the soil is most fertile and rich with nutrients. The erosion removes these upper layer of the soil and expose the rocky layer of soil which is least fertile.
22) What is the unique feature of the biodiversity found in panchmarhi biosphere Reserve?
Answer:-
The uniqueness of the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve is that the biodiversity which found in the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve is similar to the Himalayan peaks and also similar with the lower Western Ghats.
23) Mention the aim of forest (conservation) act.
Answer:- The main Aim of the conservation of natural forests are to preserve and conserve the natural forests. And getting the basic needs to the people which are living nearer to the forests.
24) What is biodiversity?
Answer:- When the variety of plants, Animals and micro-organisms found in the same area is known as biodiversity.
Biodiversity or biological diversity also states the interrelationships between the plants and animals living in that area, Also the relationship with the environment.
Long Answer Questions
25) Is deforestation associated with global warming? Explain.
Answer:- Yes. Deforestation is associated with the global warming. The main reason of increasing global warming is greenhouse gases which includes the carbon dioxide gas in major quantity. The increased amount of carbon dioxide gas in the environment is leading to increase the temperature of the earth. Trees utilise the CO2 and gives out oxygen for living being. But cutting down of forest is decreasing the number of trees on the earth which is increasing the amount of CO2 in the air. Also human activities release CO2 in the air. These CO2 traps the heat and doesn’t allow it to pass in the space. These is increasing the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. Which is leading to the global warming. If forests are preserved then maximum amount of CO2 will be consumed by the trees which can decrease the Global warming.
26) How does deforestation lead to frequent floods and droughts?
Answer:- Deforestation that is cutting down of trees leads to floods and droughts. Forest trees helps the soil to hold the water and rip it to inner layers of the earth. These increase the water holding capacity of soil also increases the ground water level of the earth. But if the trees are not present on the earth Surface then soil get expose to the sun which causes soil erosion. Raining water does not get hold by the soil and causes flood situations. These also flows of upper of the soil with the water causing soil Pollution.
Deforestation also leads to the droughts. Decrease in the number of trees increase the amount of carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere. Which causes the global warming. These increased heat in the atmosphere disturb the water cycle and reduce the rainfall. And this condition leads to droughts.
27) Why should we save paper ?
Answer:- Saving paper or recycling of the paper is necessary to save the environment. Formation of paper leads to the cutting down of trees. But saving trees are very much necessary for environment. Therefore we should save paper. For making 1 tonne of paper total 17 full grown trees are needed. Therefore we should save paper also we should recycle these papers and after that reuse it. These paper can be recycled 5 to 7 times. Saving is necessity to save the trees and finally to save the planet.
